Radio Network Prime Time Programming, 1926-1967
Difficult as it is for some to imagine what people relied on for home entertainment in the evening before television--it was that equally big medium, radio. Its programs were the precursors to the popular television sitcoms and dramas of today. This work provides two main kinds of information: month-by-month prime time (7pm to 11pm) schedules from January 1929 through July 1961, for all national broadcasting networks, and a detailed listing of all network programming moves (from July 1926 until August 1967), including series premieres, cancellations, and time slot moves, plus a yearly recap of key programming moves. Only regularly scheduled series are included. Single event or special programming is not included. The book is divided into seven chapters, one for each night of the week; each chapter consists of individual month-by-month prime time schedules for each network followed by a detailed chronological listing of each of that network's series and programming moves.
Djinns, Stars and Warriors
This book contains some of the finest examples of Mandinka oral tradtions ever published, both in English and the original Mandinka, along with a chapter of Mandinka Arabic script texts translated into English. As a complement to the author's ethnography of the Mandinka published in 1980/1987, this book presents legends about jihad leaders, witchcraft, local Islam, cosmology, the founding of villages, great leaders among women, notable social institutions and other significant people and places. The Pakao country of southern Senegal developed into a West African center of pilgrimage. This book reveals the linguistic richness of Mandinka as an African literature in its own right and contributes to broader Mande studies. Since Mandinka figured prominently in the trans-Atlantic slave trade, this book also lays a basis for future work by the author on a cultural legacy of Mandinka in the New World.
Icing Nozzle Element Optimization Test, January 1979
An MC-130E instrumented by AFGL for cloud physics research flew a series of tests behind a KC-135 specially modified with a multi-element spray nozzle. The tests, for Air Force Flight Test Center, were to sample and define the spray plume produced by the nozzle at specified values of water flow rate, distance from nozzle, and temperature. PMS spectrometers were used to sample the artificial cloud. Data were analyzed to produce sample average and instantaneous (1 sec) particle size spectra with liquid water content values. Comparison of values of liquid water content, water flow rate, and distance from nozzle to instrument indicate well defined linear relationships. Instantaneous (1 sec) liquid water content values indicate a variance in the uniformity across the spray. Maximum, minimum, mean, and standard deviation values are provided for each sample to characterize the variance. Although many of the particles had round shapes, it was not possible to tell from the instrumentation whether the particles were ice or water drops. (Author).
