Realisms of the Avant-Garde
The historical avant-gardes defined themselves largely in terms of their relationship to various versions of realism. At first glance modernism primarily seems to take a counter-position against realism, yet a closer investigation reveals that these relations are more complex. This book is dedicated to the links between realism, modernism and the avant-garde in their international context from the late 19th century up to the present day.
Literary Trials
From the 19th century onwards, famous literary trials have caught the attention of readers, academics and the public at large. Indeed it is striking that more often than not, it was the texts of renowned writers that were dealt with by the courts, as for example Gustave Flaubert's Madame Bovary and Charles Baudelaire's Les Fleurs du Mal in France, James Joyce's Ulysses and Henry Miller's Tropic of Cancer in the US, D.H. Lawrence's Lady Chatterley's Lover in Great-Britain, up to the more recent trials on Klaus Mann's Mephisto and Maxim Biller's novel Esra in Germany. By bringing together international leading experts, Literary Trials represents the first step towards a systematic discussion of literary trials on a global scale. Beginning by first reassessing some of the most famous of these trials, it also analyses less well-known but significant literary trials. Special attention is paid to recent developments in the relationship between literature and judicature, pointing towards an increasing role for libel and defamation in the societal demarcation of what literature is, and is not, allowed to do.
Clinical Cases in Primary Immunodeficiency Diseases
Primary immunodeficiency diseases (PIDs) are a heterogeneous group of inherited disorders characterized by different defects in the development and function of the immune system. This book aims to increase the clinical awareness and knowledge of practicing clinicians regarding the diagnosis and management of PIDs. In order to achieve this goal, about 90 cases drawn from real life are presented, along with approximately 300 related questions. The selected case reports are the result of the invaluable cooperation of more than 40 scientists in the field of immunodeficiency. They focus both on the presenting features of patients with PIDs and on the required further investigation and management. Each of the numbered cases is followed by the questions, their answers, and additional discussion. Each question focuses on a particular aspect of the PID under consideration, and the topics covered include clinical diagnosis, laboratory findings, molecular mechanisms, and therapy.

Band 2 des Kempowski-Jahrbuchs widmet sich dem Roman Schöne Aussicht (1981). Geschildert wird die deutsche Zwischenkriegszeit. Aus Sicht der Familie Kempowski wird »das weite Feld des Alltäglichen« (Hans Jörg Hennecke) zwischen sozialer Kälte und politisch aufgeheizter Atmosphäre bestellt. Neben der politischen Entwicklung interessieren den Autor die Darstellung unterschiedlicher sozialer Milieus und Charaktere. Die vielfach geschwächten ›Familienbande‹ werden mit kühl taxierendem Blick erfasst und spiegeln die innere Distanz des Bürgertums zu den großen Ideologien der Zeit wider.

Es bietet wissenschaftliche Beiträge zu Leben und Werk Gottfried Benns und zum literarischen Kontext seiner Zeit. Jeder Band präsentiert Aufsätze zu einem speziellen Themenschwerpunkt sowie neue Forschungen zur Biographie Benns und zu Text-Neufunden, außerdem Rezensionen zu wichtigen Neuerscheinungen und eine fortgeschriebene, systematisch angelegte Personalbibliographie. Das Benn Forum stellt damit das zentrale Periodikum der internationalen Benn-Forschung dar.

Published by the International Robert Musil Society, the Musil-Forum is an established interdisciplinary platform dedicated to the exploration of Classic Modernist literature and, in particular, the work of Robert Musil. Currently published every two years, the Musil-Forum is interdisciplinary in its approach and open in its methodology. It is a source of information on the latest research in Modernism and current research debates. The Forum focuses on articles relating to the life and work of Musil (1880-1942), 20th century Austrian literature, and Classic Modernist literature (approx. 1895-1933), encouraging debate on the possibilities and limitations of the by no means standardised or concise term Classic Modernism. A debate reflecting on the continuity and discontinuity of literary and cultural strategies and themes in equal measures. Each contribution is accompanied by an English abstract.
