Mathematics and Computation in Music

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Mathematics and Computation in Music, MCM 2022, held in Atlanta, GA, USA, in June 2022. The 29 full papers and 8 short papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 45 submissions. The papers feature research that combines mathematics or computation with music theory, music analysis, composition, and performance. They are organized in Mathematical Scale and Rhythm Theory: Combinatorial, Graph Theoretic, Group Theoretic and Transformational Approaches; Categorical and Algebraic Approaches to Music; Algorithms and Modeling for Music and Music-Related Phenomena; Applications of Mathematics to Musical Analysis; Mathematical Techniques and Microtonality

Mathematical Music Theory

Questions about variation, similarity, enumeration, and classification of musical structures have long intrigued both musicians and mathematicians. Mathematical models can be found from theoretical analysis to actual composition or sound production. Increasingly in the last few decades, musical scholarship has incorporated modern mathematical content. One example is the application of methods from Algebraic Combinatorics, or Topology and Graph Theory, to the classification of different musical objects. However, these applications of mathematics in the understanding of music have also led to interesting open problems in mathematics itself. The reach and depth of the contributions on mathematical music theory presented in this volume is significant. Each contribution is in a section within these subjects: (i) Algebraic and Combinatorial Approaches; (ii) Geometric, Topological, and Graph-Theoretical Approaches; and (iii) Distance and Similarity Measures in Music. remove

STOLEN HALO is a moving and engrossing memoirabout childhood physical, sexual and emotional abuse; about rejection and abandonmentthat provides a perspective that only a person who was that child can know. STOLEN HALO is a true testament to the importance and the process of facing ones past head-on, resurrecting that past, owning and respecting it, putting it into written wordsand then sharing ones own story with the universe in the hope that those words will somehow help others make sense of their own lives just as writing them made sense to the author. For Trish Dinsmoor, in STOLEN HALO, it isnt just a matter of honestyit is a matter of responsibilityto get her message of hope out to all the victims of abuse. STOLEN HALOand its poignant message of hope and survivalis Trish Dinsmoors attempt to set herself and other victims free.
