This book is an introductory text on design science, intended to support both graduate students and researchers in structuring, undertaking and presenting design science work. It builds on established design science methods as well as recent work on presenting design science studies and ethical principles for design science, and also offers novel instruments for visualizing the results, both in the form of process diagrams and through a canvas format. While the book does not presume any prior knowledge of design science, it provides readers with a thorough understanding of the subject and enables them to delve into much deeper detail, thanks to extensive sections on further reading. This book constitutes the proceedings of the 14th International Conference on Research Challenges in Information Sciences, RCIS 2020, held in Limassol, Cyprus, during September 23-25, 2020. The conference was originally scheduled for May 2020, but the organizing committee was forced to postpone the conference due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. The scope of RCIS 2020 is summarized by the thematic areas of information systems and their engineering; user-oriented approaches; data and information management; business process management; domain-specific information systems engineering; data science; information infrastructures, and reflective research and practice. The 26 full papers and 3 work in progress papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 106 submissions. They were organized in topical sections named: Data Analytics and Business Intelligence; Digital Enterprise and Technologies; Human Factors in Information Systems; Information Systems Development and Testing; Machine Learning and Text Processing; and Security and Privacy. The volume also contains 12 poster and demo-papers, and 4 Doctoral Consortium papers.
Leading economists address the ongoing challenges to economics in theory and practice in a time of political and economic crises. More than a decade of financial crises, sovereign debt problems, political conflict, and rising xenophobia and protectionism has left the global economy unsettled and the ability of economics as a discipline to account for episodes of volatility uncertain. In this book, leading economists consider the state of their discipline in a world of ongoing economic and political crises. The book begins with three sweeping essays by Nobel laureates Kenneth Arrow (in one of his last published works), Amartya Sen, and Joseph Stiglitz that offer a summary of the theoretical f...

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 39th International Conference on Conceptual Modeling, ER 2020, which was supposed to be held in Vienna, Austria, in November 2020, but the conference was held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 28 full and 16 short papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 143 submissions. This events covers a wide range of topics, and the papers are organized in the following sessions: foundations of conceptual modeling; process mining and conceptual modeling; conceptual modeling of business rules and processes; modeling chatbots, narratives and natural language; ontology and conceptual modeling; applications of conceptual modeling; schema design, evolution, NoSQL; empirical studies of conceptual modeling; networks, graphs and conceptual modeling; and conceptual modeling of complex and data-rich systems.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 17th International Conference on Advanced Information Systems Engineering, CAiSE 2005, held in Porto, Portugal in June 2005. The 39 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 282 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on conceptual modeling, metamodeling, databases, query processing, process modeling and workflow systems, requirements engineering, model transformation, knowledge management and verification, Web services, Web engineering, software testing, and software quality.
During the IFAC/IFIP I-ESA international conference, supported by the INTEROP NoE and the ATHENA IP, three workshops and a doctoral symposium were organized in order to strengthen some key topics related to interoperability for enterprise applications and software. The workshops were selected to complement the conference topics, providing researchers with more time to brainstorm and then to come out, at the end of the workshops, with new research directions for the future.
This book contains the proceedings of two well established scienti?c events held in connection with the CAiSE conferences relating to the areas of enterprise, business-processes, and information systems modeling: – The 11th International Workshop on Business Process Modeling, Devel- ment and Support (BPMDS 2010); – The 15th International Conference on Exploring Modeling Methods for S- tems Analysis and Design (EMMSAD 2010). The two events are introduced brie?y below. This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed proceedings of the international workshops associated with the 35th International Conference on Advanced Information Systems Engineering, CAiSE 2023, which was held in Zaragoza, Spain, during June 12-16, 2023. The workshops included in this volume are: · 1st International Workshop on Hybrid Artificial Intelligence and Enterprise Modelling for Intelligent Information Systems (HybridAIMS) · 1st Workshop on Knowledge Graphs for Semantics-Driven Systems Engineering (KG4SDSE) · Blockchain and Decentralized Governance Design for Information Systems (BC4IS and DGD) They reflect a broad range of topics and trends ranging from blockchain technologies via digital factories, ethics, and ontologies, to the agile methods for business and information systems. The theme of this year’s CAiSE was “Cyber-Human Systems”. The 10 full papers and 9 short paper presented in this book were carefully reviewed and selected from 25 submissions.
