The power of microwave remote sensing for studying the oceans of the world was demonstrated conclusively by the SEASAT mission in 1978. Joseph Cox, son of John Cox and Catherine Cull, was born 1 November 1783 in Virginia. He married Mary Rue in 1804 in Henry County, Kentucky. They had ten children. He died in 1848 in Rapids City, Illinois. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska and California.
