This IBM® Redpaper publication explains how IBM Spectrum® Discover integrates with the IBM Watson® Knowledge Catalog (WKC) component of IBM Cloud® Pak for Data (IBM CP4D) to make the enriched catalog content in IBM Spectrum Discover along with the associated data available in WKC and IBM CP4D. From an end-to-end IBM solution point of view, IBM CP4D and WKC provide state-of-the-art data governance, collaboration, and artificial intelligence (AI) and analytics tools, and IBM Spectrum Discover complements these features by adding support for unstructured data on large-scale file and object storage systems on premises and in the cloud. Many organizations face challenges to manage unstructure...

Updated on May 1st, 2017 You can enable user authentication for IBM® FlashSystem A9000 and FlashSystem A9000R for use with Microsoft Windows Active Directory (AD). AD is Microsoft Windows implementation of the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP). The benefits of an LDAP-based centralized user management can be substantial when you consider the size and complexity of the overall IT environment. Maintaining local user credential repositories is straightforward and convenient when you work with only a few users and a few storage systems. However, as the number of users and interconnected systems grows, the complexity of user account management rapidly increases, and managing this environment is time-consuming. This IBM RedpaperTM publication explores various benefits of this approach. Although the benefits from using AD are significant, you must also evaluate the substantial planning effort and added complexity of deploying an LDAP infrastructure if it is not already in place.

IBM Spectrum Connect and IBM Storage Enabler for Containers: Practical Example with IBM FlashSystem A9000

This IBM® RedpaperTM publication provides an overview of containers and their framework. Container technology enables prepackaged and pre-configured software with the elements that are needed to run in any environment. Because they are meant to be portable, containers normally restrict applications from storing data on external storage. To overcome this limitation, IBM has developed a solution to provide persistent storage for containers on IBM storage systems, known as the IBM Storage Enabler for Containers. The Enabler tightly integrates with IBM SpectrumTM Connect (formerly IBM Spectrum ControlTM Base Edition). IBM Storage Enabler for Containers v1.0 extends IBM Spectrum Connect to Kubernetes orchestrated container environments. The paper focuses on containers implementation, management, and control by using IBM Spectrum Connect and IBM Storage Enabler for Containers plug-in, with IBM FlashSystem® A9000 or A9000R.

This IBM® Redpaper publication provides a comprehensive overview of the IBM Spectrum® Discover metadata management software platform. We give a detailed explanation of how the product creates, collects, and analyzes metadata. Several in-depth use cases are used that show examples of analytics, governance, and optimization. We also provide step-by-step information to install and set up the IBM Spectrum Discover trial environment. More than 80% of all data that is collected by organizations is not in a standard relational database. Instead, it is trapped in unstructured documents, social media posts, machine logs, and so on. Many organizations face significant challenges to manage this delug...
