Application of Infrared Thermography in Sports Science
This book addresses the application of infrared thermography in sports, examining the main benefits of this non-invasive, non-radiating and low-cost technique. Aspects covered include the detection of injuries in sports medicine, the assessment of sports performance due to the existing link between physical fitness and thermoregulation and the analysis of heat transfer for sports garments and sports equipment. Although infrared thermography is broadly considered to be a fast and easy-to-use tool, the ability to deliver accurate and repeatable measurements is an important consideration. Furthermore, it is important to be familiar with the latest sports studies published on this technique to understand its potential and limitations. Artificial Intelligence on Medical Data

Ivens Dias Branco
In 1953, when he was 19 years old, Ivens started working with his father Manuel, a Portuguese immigrant. In less than three decades, he turned Padaria Fortaleza (Fortaleza Bakery) into one of the largest industrial groups in Latin America in the cookies and pasta industry. He also owns hotels, a cement factory, a construction company, and a grain transportation port in Bahia. However, his most special feature is actually his character and the singular way he relates to people. Sergio Vilas-Boas conducted 80 interviews to compose this profile, shedding light on the causes and consequences of the positive unanimity of this discrete and methodical gentleman who, with dedication and perspicacity, immensely contributed to the socioeconomic progress of Brazil’s Northeast region.
Historical Perspectives of Fisheries Exploitation in the Indo-Pacific
The waters of the Indo-Pacific were at the centre of the global expansion of marine capture fisheries in the twentieth century, yet surprisingly little has been written about this subject from a historical perspective. Biomechanics and Medicine in Swimming IX
The IXth International World Symposium on Biomechanics and Medicine in Swimming was held in Saint-Etienne in France from June 21 - 23 2002, under the auspices of the World Commission of Sport Biomechanics and the Steering Group of Biomechanics and Medicine in Swimming. The main conference organisers were the Laboratoire de Physiologie of the Medical Faculty and Service d'Exploration Fonctionnelle Cardio-Respiratoire et Médecine du Sport of Saint-Etienne Hospital. The conference was a joint effort with several other organisations as well. The Department of Physical Education of the University of Saint-Etienne, the City of Saint-Etienne, the Conseil Général de la Loire, the Conseil régional Rhône-Alpes, the Association des Chercheurs en Activités Physiques et Sportives, the French Swimming Federation, the INSERM, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Société de la Loire de Médecine du Sport and the société française de Médecine du Sport were the main public sponsors of the Symposium.
