In this book, a set of relevant, updated and selected papers in the field of automation and robotics are presented. These papers describe projects where topics of artificial intelligence, modeling and simulation process, target tracking algorithms, kinematic constraints of the closed loops, non-linear control, are used in advanced and recent research.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 8th Mexican International Conference on Artificial Intelligence, MICAI 2009, held in Guanajuato, Mexico, in November 2009. The 63 revised full papers presented together with one invited talk were carefully reviewed and selected from 215 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on logic and reasoning, ontologies, knowledge management and knowledge-based systems, uncertainty and probabilistic reasoning, natural language processing, data mining, machine learning, pattern recognition, computer vision and image processing, robotics, planning and scheduling, fuzzy logic, neural networks, intelligent tutoring systems, bioinformatics and medical applications, hybrid intelligent systems and evolutionary algorithms.
This book is an overview of the different paths automation and control engineering have taken lately, from a modern point of view. Built up with example chapters, this book provides some insight into the use of artificial intelligence and control theory on manufacturing, comfort analysis, reliability of modern digital systems, and the use of unusual reference and feedback signals as those coming from the brain. Nonetheless, some chapters are also devoted to a more traditional point of view of control theory, addressing complex problems where human intervention must be limited. Overall, this book is an effort to show that modern automation and control engineering are comprised by many diverse areas, which should interact in order to provide a complete result. In this way, as the systems become more complex and the control objectives more subjective, both, formal analytic and intelligent approaches, should be seen as complementary tools, not unrelated competitors. This books aim is precisely that of showing how broad and diverse the control objectives have become and how the abilities of the control engineer should be extended.

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed proceedings of the 9th International Congress on Telematics and Computing, WITCOM 2020, held in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, in November 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the conference was held online. The 28 full papers and 3 short papers in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 79 submissions. This two-volume set LNAI 6437 and 6438 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 9th Mexican International Conference on Artificial Intelligence, MICAI 2010, held in Pachuca, Mexico, in November 2010.
