Der Konflikt zwischen der Siedlungsverdichtung und dem Lärmschutz führt in der Raumplanung und bei Bauprojekten zu Herausforderungen. Der Druck, Siedlungen zu verdichten, nimmt stetig zu. Gleichzeitig wird der Verkehrs-, Alltags- sowie Freizeitlärm vielerorts lauter und kann Bauprojekte verhindern, die sich eigentlich zur Siedlungsverdichtung eignen würden. Verschiedentlich wird gefordert, dass der Zielkonflikt zwischen dem Lärmschutz und der Siedlungsverdichtung im Lärmschutzrecht besser geregelt wird. Der Bundesrat hat einen Erlassentwurf sowie eine Botschaft zur Änderung des Lärmschutzrechts im Umweltschutzgesetz an das Parlament überwiesen.
