This vital new Handbook clarifies how qualitative research can be undertaken in the discipline of Information Systems (IS), observing how IS can be taught and its recent developments. Through succinctly bringing together influential research, it extensively surveys contemporary trends in qualitative IS studies.
Includes appications of both information technology and production-operations management with a focus on information systems to demonstrate the real environment that exists for IS projects.
Information Systems Management is intended to sensitize the heads of organizations to the issues raised by information systems (IS). Through its pedagogical presentation, the book ensures that issues related to IS are not left solely to the experts in the field. The book combines and analyzes three key concepts of IS: governance, urbanization and alignment. While governance requires the implementation of a number of means, bodies and procedures to manage IS more effectively, urbanization involves visualization methods to enable the manager to take into account the different levels of the organization of an IS and their coherence. Finally, alignment assesses the ability of the IS to make a significant contribution to the organization's strategy.
This state-of-the-art Research Handbook presents a comprehensive overview of the key strategic challenges that firms face when dealing with digital markets, platforms, and products and services, from old strategy questions in need of different solutions to entirely novel issues posed by the new competitive digital context. This title contains one or more Open Access chapters.
This edited two-volume collection presents the most interesting and compelling articles pertaining to the formulation of research methods used to study information systems from the 30-year publication history of the Journal of Information Technology .
The human mind is endowed with a remarkable capacity for creative synthesis between intuition and reason; this mental alchemy is the source of genius. A new synergy is emerging between human ingenuity and the computational capacity of generative AI models. Automated Data Analytics focuses on this fruitful collaboration between the two to unlock the full potential of data analysis. Together, human ethics and algorithmic productivity have created an alloy stronger than the sum of its parts. The future belongs to this symbiosis between heart and mind, human and machine. If we succeed in harmoniously combining our strengths, it will only be a matter of time before we discover new analytical horizons. This book sets out the foundations of this promising partnership, in which everyone makes their contribution to a common work of considerable scope. History is being forged before our very eyes. It is our responsibility to write it wisely, and to collectively pursue the ideal of augmented intelligence progress.
Digitalization is a long and constant sociohistoric process in which all areas of societys activities are reconfigured. Digitalization of Society and Socio-political Issues 1 examines the transformations linked to the development of digital platforms and social media, which affect the cultural and communicational industries. It analyzes the formation of Big Data, their algorithmic processing and the societal changes which result (social monitoring and control in particular). Through critical views, it equally presents the various ways in which technology participates in relations of power and domination, and contributes to possible emancipatory practices.
The term "hyperdocumentation" is a hyperbole that seems to characterize a paradox. The leading discussions on this topic bring in diverse ideas such as that of data, the fantasy of Big Data, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, algorithmic processing, the flow of information and the outstanding successes of disinformation. The purpose of this book is to show that the current context of documentation is just another step in human construction that has been ongoing for not centuries but millennia and which, since the end of the 19th century, has been accelerating. Coined by Paul Otlet in 1934 in his Traite de Documentation, "hyperdocumentation" refers to the concept of documentation that is constantly being expanded and extended in its functionalities and prerogatives. While, according to Otlet, everything could potentially be documented in this way, increasingly we find that it is our lives that are being hyperdocumented. Hyperdocumentation manifests as an increase not only in the quantity of information that is processed but also in its scope, as information is progressively integrated across areas that were previously poorly documented or even undocumented.
For 200 years, industry mastered iron, fire, strength and energy. Today, electronics shape our everyday objects, integrating chips everywhere: computers, phones, keys, games, household appliances, etc. Data, software and calculation frame the conduct of men and the administration of things. Everything is translated into data: the figure is king. This third and last volume of the series examines the creative destruction induced by digital, modifying manners and customs, law, society and politics.
Mastering chance has, for a long time, been a preoccupation of mathematical research. Today, we possess a predictive approach to the evolution of systems based on the theory of probabilities. Even so, uncovering this subject is sometimes complex, because it necessitates a good knowledge of the underlying mathematics. This book offers an introduction to the processes linked to the fluctuations in chance and the use of numerical methods to approach solutions that are difficult to obtain through an analytical approach. It takes classic examples of inventory and queueing management, and addresses more diverse subjects such as equipment reliability, genetics, population dynamics, physics and even market finance. It is addressed to those at Masters level, at university, engineering school or management school, but also to an audience of those in continuing education, in order that they may discover the vast field of decision support.
