Materials Science and Applied Physics
The Second Mexican Meeting on Mathematical and Experimental Physics brought together scientists from many different fields. The Meeting was divided into three Symposia: (i) Materials Science and Applied Physics, (ii) Statistical Physics and Beyond, (iii) Gravitation and Cosmology. This volume corresponds to the Materials Science and Applied Physics symposium and contains contributions in a wide range of subjects reflecting the research being performed at several Mexican universities and institutes as well as some outstanding invited speakers from abroad showing us some areas where, for several reasons, Mexico has developed little or no research. All the papers report original high-quality research work in subjects such as: (i) laser materials processing and laser ablation, (ii) optical properties of materials with scattered laser light, (iii) biophysics and biosystems, (iv) complex fluids and (v) optical manipulation of microparticles with laser beams.
Group Theoretical Methods in Physics
Symmetry is permeating our understanding of nature: Group theoretical methods of intrinsic interest to mathematics have expanded their applications from physics to chemistry and biology. The ICGTMP Colloquia maintain the communication among the many branches into which this endeavor has bloomed. Lie group and representation theory, special functions, foundations of quantum mechanics, and elementary particle, nuclear, atomic, and molecular physics are among the traditional subjects. More recent areas include supersymmetry, superstrings and quantum gravity, integrability, nonlinear systems and quantum chaos, semigroups, time asymmetry and resonances, condensed matter, and statistical physics. Topics such as linear and nonlinear optics, quantum computing, discrete systems, and signal analysis have only in the last few years become part of the group theorists' turf. In Group Theoretical Methods in Physics, readers will find both review contributions that distill the state of the art in a broad field, and articles pointed to specific problems, in many cases, preceding their formal publication in the journal literature.
Fundamentos del electromagnetismo y de la mecánica cuántica
Este libro está basado en el Ciclo Semestral de doce Conferencias con el mismo título, impartido en la Facultad de Ciencias de la UNAM en Febrero-Marzo y Agosto-Septiembre de 2020. Una contribución previa del autor en la Revista Ciencias de la misma Facultad, titulada La Hipótesis Cuántica de la Luz (2005), se concentró en explicar el desarrollo de la mecánica cuántica y sus aplicaciones a lo largo de su primer siglo. En la presente obra se subraya la importancia de reconocer, revisar y conectar los fundamentos comunes del electromagnetismo y la mecánica cuántica.
