In recent years, instruments and institutions for dispute settlement have multiplied. They now cover almost all areas of international law ranging from international economic law and international criminal law to more traditional fields such as arbitration procedures. Given this development, it became necessary, if not mandatory, to envisage a revised, updated and considerably enlarged second edition of the standard compilation of texts and materials on dispute settlement in public international law, which was first published in 1984 under the auspices of the Heidelberg Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law. Continuing that tradition, the second edition has largely retained the purpose and concept of the publication, namely to make available to researchers, scholars and practitioners a comprehensive collection of more than 150 different instruments which are otherwise sometimes rather difficult to find elsewhere.

The purpose of the present collection is to make significant and in part generally inac cessible documents from an important area of international law available to researchers, scholars and practitioners in a reliable and appropriate form. In addition, the abundance of materials in the field of international dispute settlement makes all the more justifi able an undertaking which provides the official documentation and a concise bibliogra phy for a representative selection of organizations in this area. Unlike an earlier collec tion published by the Max Planck Institute in 1961, which contained only treaties entered into by the Federal Republic of Germany, the attempt has been made in this vo...

World Court Digest 2001 - 2005

  • Categories: Law

The first three volumes of the World Court Digest cover the periods 1986 to 1990, 1991 to 1995 and 1996 to 2000. We are happy to issue the fourth volume, covering the period from 2001 to 2005. We hope that this new Digest will be welcome to all those interested in the case law of the International Court of Justice. We are, of course, aware that nowadays the decisions of the Court are easily accessible through electronic data systems. However, there is no systematic analysis available in the form presented by the World Court Digest. Therefore, the Digest will be useful for those who wish to find the most recent position of the Court on a particular issue of international law. As the three pre...

The World Court Digest provides the reader with a reliable means of access to the decisions of the most important international judicial organ concerning cases as important as the Lockerbie-case; the question of the violation of the genocide convention, of the nuclear test problem, to mention only some of the most important issues.
