The Absoluteness of Christianity and the History of Religions

In this seminal work, pioneering theologian Ernst Troeltsch raises the question, how can we pass beyond the diversity with which history presents us to norms for our faith and for our judgments about life? He trenchantly probes the issue of how one religion--when viewed historically in the context of other world religions--can be universally and absolutely true. Though many others since have explored the issue of historical relativism and religious truth, few have done so with Troeltsch's determination and incisiveness, and for this he has made a lasting contribution to Christian theology and the philosophy of religion. The questions Troeltsch poses in this book remain utterly significant for the thoughtful Christian today. This reissue of a well-known classic includes a foreword by theological titan James Luther Adams.

Ernst Troeltsch and the Future of Theology

A reassessment of the theology of the German Protestant theologian, Ernst Troeltsch (1865-1923) and of his significance for contemporary theology. The six papers here presented were originally delivered at an international colloquium on Troeltsch held at the University of Lancaster. The contributors focus on the fundamental issues raised by Troeltsch which remain central to theology today and seek to engage him as a discussion partner in a continuing debate. Troeltsch has been unduly neglected as a theologian, a fact which is due partly to the dominance of the 'dialectical' theology of Barth and Bultmann in Germany after the First World War. This book seeks to remedy this state of affairs by...

‘The Anthem Companion to Ernst Troeltsch’ is the first collection of essays in English devoted to the thinking of Ernst Troeltsch. The eight essays are written by scholars who have been recognized as major contributors to works on Troeltsch; many of them have published books on his theology. These essays are devoted to exploring Troeltsch’s ethical, sociological and political ideas in addition to his theological concepts. The collection aims to depict Troeltsch as a major sociologist and important philosopher in addition to being one of the most significant German theologians of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

Carl Friedrich von Siemens 1872–1941

Entrepreneur in an Age of Upheaval Carl Friedrich von Siemens was one of the significant business figures in an era filled with crises and turmoil. He became “Head of the House of Siemens” after World War I and managed the company throughout the German Great Inflation and the Great Depression, as well as during the Third Reich and into the early years of World War II. This biography provides the first comprehensive portrait of the personality and diverse accomplishments of a man who reorganized the Siemens companies, headed the Reichsbahn national railroad for ten years, and served politically as a delegate from a democracy-supporting party. The study shows how he increasingly turned away from party politics, and how his position evolved yet again during the Third Reich, from compliance with the regime to a growing personal alienation.

Magisterarbeit aus dem Jahr 2001 im Fachbereich Soziologie - Religion, Note: 2, Universität Kassel (FB Gesellschaftswissenschaften), 42 Quellen im Literaturverzeichnis, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die vorliegende Magisterarbeit "Die Bedeutung des Protestantismus für die moderne Welt nach Ernst Troeltsch" beschäftigt sich mit dem gleichnamigen Vortrag, den Prof. Troeltsch auf dem IX. Deutschen Historikertag 1906 in Stuttgart hielt.
