Chance Discoveries in Real World Decision Making
For this book, the editors invited and called for contributions from indispensable research areas relevant to "chance discovery," which has been defined as the discovery of events significant for making a decision, and studied since 2000. From respective research areas as artificial intelligence, mathematics, cognitive science, medical science, risk management, methodologies for design and communication, the invited and selected authors in this book present their particular approaches to chance discovery. The chapters here show contributions to identifying rare or hidden events and explaining their significance, predicting future trends, communications for scenario development in marketing and design, identification effects and side-effects of medicines, etc. The methods presented in this book are based on the interaction of human, machine, and human's living environment, rather than based purely automated predictions of the future. This is a promising direction of computer-supported decision of human in a radically changing environment.
Advances in Artificial Intelligence
This book presents selected and extended papers from the largest conference on artificial intelligence in Japan, which was expanded into an internationalized event for the first time in 2019: the 33rd Annual Conference of the Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence (JSAI 2019), held on June 4–June 7, 2019 at TOKI MESSE in Niigata, Japan. Advances in Artificial Intelligence
This book contains extended versions of research papers presented at the international sessions at the 35th Annual Conference of the Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence (JSAI2021), which was held online from June 8–11, 2021. The JSAI annual conferences are considered key events for our organization, and the international sessions held at these conferences play a key role for the society in its efforts to share Japan’s research on artificial intelligence with other countries. The topics of the international sessions in JSAI2021 cover five categories: knowledge engineering, machine learning, agents, robots and real worlds, and human interface and education aid. From the papers submitted to those categories, papers of high quality were selected through the strict reviewing procedure. As a result, 19 papers are included in this book. From this book, readers can get an overview of recent Japan’s research on artificial intelligence.
Data Mining for Service
Virtually all nontrivial and modern service related problems and systems involve data volumes and types that clearly fall into what is presently meant as "big data", that is, are huge, heterogeneous, complex, distributed, etc. Data mining is a series of processes which include collecting and accumulating data, modeling phenomena, and discovering new information, and it is one of the most important steps to scientific analysis of the processes of services.
