Submissions to the conference this year were conducted entirely electro- cally. Introduces applied mathematicians and graduate students to an original relaxation method based on a continuous extension of various optimization problems relating to convex compactification; it can be applied to problems in optimal control theory, the calculus of variations, and non-cooperative game theory. Reviews the background and summarizes the general theory of convex compactifications, then uses it to obtain convex, locally compact envelopes of the Lebesague and Sobolev spaces involved in concrete problems. The nontrivial envelopes cover the classical Young measures as well as various generalizations of them, which can record the limit behavior of fast oscillation and concentration effects. Focusing on fruitful exchanges between group theory and number theory, this book examines recent work in the characterization of extensions of number fields in terms of the decomposition of prime ideals. A key problem in this area is establishing the equality of Dedekind zeta functions of different number fields. This problem was solved for abelian extensions by class field theory, but was little studied in its general form until 1970. Recent progress has been based on important results in group theory, particularly the complete classification of all finite simple groups. This book provides an overview of this progress in algebraic number theory; it contains previously unpublished work as well as numerous results appearing in monograph form the first time.

The focus is on the perfor mance analysis and optimization of inbound call centers. Since call arrivals and call-handling times are often random in inbound call centers, this thesis concentrates on the performance analysis and optimization using queueing models.
