The state-of-the-art in stereoselective synthesis! Thoroughly revised and updated, this enlarged second edition offers a plethora of valuable information on methods and reagents in stereoselective synthesis. Methods have been selected for high efficiency and selectivity; mechanistic aspects are treated succinctly, with a strong emphasis on practical applications. For this new edition, material has been added on * homogeneous diastereoselective hydrogenations * enantioselective oxidations * novel, efficient chiral auxiliaries Much of the information given is presented in figures and tables, which makes the book a valuable reference work for the practically minded organic chemist. From reviews of the first edition: 'The extensive material in the volume should prove particularly useful to anyone involved in synthetic chemistry or teaching a course in organic chemistry.' Journal of Medicinal Chemistry 'With nearly 1400 references cited, the book contains a wealth of information and should be a useful addition to the chemist's library.' The American Scientist
Annotation A report covering the literature published during 1986, providing a summary and assessment of reactions and methods in organic chemistry which are new and sufficiently general to be useful in synthesis. Sections include: interconversions between all the major functional groups; applications of organometallic compounds in synthesis; developments in the synthesis of saturated carbocycles and heterocycles; and a summary of highlights in total synthesis of natural products. A list of reviews on aspects of the field is collected at the end of the report. No subject index. Acidic paper. Distributed by CRC. Annotation(c) 2003 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com).
During the ten years since the appearance of the groundbreaking, bestselling first edition of The Electronics Handbook, the field has grown and changed tremendously. With a focus on fundamental theory and practical applications, the first edition guided novice and veteran engineers along the cutting edge in the design, production, installation, operation, and maintenance of electronic devices and systems. Completely updated and expanded to reflect recent advances, this second edition continues the tradition. The Electronics Handbook, Second Edition provides a comprehensive reference to the key concepts, models, and equations necessary to analyze, design, and predict the behavior of complex e...
The main theme of Part B is the description of synthetically useful reactions and the illustration of their application. We have attempted to update the material to reflect the most important advances in synthetic methodology. Because of the extensive developments in the use of organic derivatives of transition metals, as well as of silicon and tin, we have separated the organometallic material into three chapters. Chapter 7 emphasizes organolithium and organomagnesium chemistry and also considers the group lIB metals. Transition metal chemistry is discussed in Chapter 8, with emphasis on copper and palladium intermediates. In Chapter 9, the carbon-carbon bond-forming reactions of organobora...

There is growing knowledge about and appreciation of the importance of Non-timber Forest Products (NTFPs) to rural livelihoods in developing countries, and to a lesser extent, developed countries. However, there is also an assumption on the part of policy-makers that any harvesting of wild animal or plant products from the forests and other natural and modified ecosystems must be detrimental to the long-term viability of target populations and species. This book challenges this idea and shows that while examples of such negative impacts certainly exist, there are also many examples of sustainable harvesting systems for NTFPs. The chapters review and present coherent and scientifically sound information and case studies on the ecologically sustainable use of NTFPs. They also outline a general interdisciplinary approach for assessing the sustainability of NTFP harvesting systems at different scales. A wide range of case studies is included from Africa, Asia and South America, using plant and animal products for food, crafts, textiles, medicines and cosmetics.
The book in the existing context empirically examines the institutional leaders under the three tier system of Panchayati-Raj institutions (PRIs). It deals with the socio-economic roots of the rural bodies at all the three tiers, as a backdrop to their emergence: the awareness and knowlegeability of the rural leaders relating to various problems and their socio-economic values.
Soil fertility is the backbone of agricultural systems and plays a key role in determining food quantity and quality. In recent decades, soil fertility has decreased due to indiscriminate use of agrochemicals, and nations around the globe are now facing the challenge of increasing food production while sustainably maintaining soil fertility. Written by leading international scientists in the field, this book explores soil fertility management strategies, including agronomic, microbiological and soil-science based strategies. Highlighting the practices that can be incorporated into organic farming and discussing recent advances, it is a valuable resource for researchers wanting to broaden their vision and the scope of their investigations.
Public Administrative System In India Continuously Spread And Expanded Its Scope Carrying Its Steel Frame For About 40 Years After Independence. Steel Is Symbolic Of Hardness Of Character, Strength, Firmness And Malleability. The Steel Frame Is Now Tempered And Transformed In To Plastic. The System For The Last 20 Years Is Getting Molded To The Needs Of Global Environmental Changes And Undergoing Certain Plastic Surgery. The Volume Contains The Research Papers Of The Author Contributed To Various Seminars, Conferences And Journals. The Papers Are Varied On Different Aspects Of The Discipline And Profession Of Public Adminstration In India.
