Designed specially for undergraduate students in medicine, pharmacy and nursing, this compact text, oriented completely to the medical aspects, skillfully analyzes the fundamentals of Biostatistics. The book begins with discussions on Biostatistics in health and diseases, types of data, and methods of data collection. Then it goes on to give a detailed description of fertility and demography indicators, indicators of social and mental health, sampling, standard error and confidence interval, as well as the principles of statistical tests. The study concludes with a discussion on parametric and non-parametric tests, chi-square tests, regression and correlation, and sample size in medical studies. Key Features: Key Features • Gives key terms and concepts at the beginning of each chapter. • Provides relevant medical examples to illustrate the methods discussed. • Has large number of exercises—numerical, MCQs and true/false—at the end of each chapter. • Gives solutions to exercises. Aspirants of PG entrance and USMLE examinations should also find the book extremely useful.
The book Ganga: A Scientific Study is based on an Integrated Research Programme carried out by 14 Universities located in the Ganga Basin sponsored and funded by the Envioronment Research Committee and The Ganga Project Directorate, Ministry of Environment & Forests, Government of India, New Delhi. The Ganga, one of World's major rivers, has been venerated as the holiest and is bound with countless beliefs and faiths especially in India and adjacent countries. Its water has traditionally been regarded as an inexhaustible gift of nature. Recent experiences do not, however, warrant such a complacency. The water resources are strained to a non-sustainable level due to rapid population explosion...
This widely-acclaimed serial contains authoritative reviews that address all aspects of organometallic chemistry, a field which has expanded enormously since the publication of Volume 1 in 1964. Almost all branches of chemistry and material science now interface with organometallic chemistry--the study of compounds containing carbonmetal bonds. Organometallic compounds range from species which are so reactive that they only have a transient existence at ambienttemperatures to species which are thermally very stable. Organometallics are used extensively in the synthesis of useful compounds on both large and small scales. Industrial processes involving plastics, polymers, electronic materials,...
This book provides a comprehensive understanding of the complex relationship between microbial symbionts and plants in the era of climate change. It focuses on the plant microbiome associated with different plant organs like roots, leaves, stems, fruit, and seeds, and showcases their significant role in the enhancement of crop yield and protection in a sustainable manner. Concomitantly, acumens to the most emerging trends in plant microbial research that includes rhizosphere engineering and metagenomics are also covered in this title. The association of microbial symbionts with the host offers a wide advantage in terms of acclimatization to varied environmental conditions. A large number of ...
This book is focused on the current status of industrial pollution, its source, characteristics, and management through various advanced treatment technologies. The book covers the recycle, reuse and recovery of waste for the production of value-added products. The book explores industrial wastewater pollution and its treatment through various advanced technologies and also the source and characteristics of solid waste and its management for environmental safety. It discusses new methods and technologies to combat the waste-related pollution and focuses on the use of recycled products. This book is of value to upcoming students, researchers, scientists, industry persons and professionals in the field of environmental science and engineering, microbiology, biotechnology, toxicology, further it is useful for global and local authorities and policy makers responsible for the management of liquid and solid wastes.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Third International Conference on the Theory of Information Retrieval, ICTIR 2011, held in Bertinoro, Italy, in September 2011. The 25 revised full papers and 13 short papers presented together with the abstracts of two invited talks were carefully reviewed and selected from 65 submissions. The papers cover topics ranging from query expansion, co-occurence analysis, user and interactive modelling, system performance prediction and comparison, and probabilistic approaches for ranking and modelling IR to topics related to interdisciplinary approaches or applications. They are organized into the following topical sections: predicting query performance; latent semantic analysis and word co-occurrence analysis; query expansion and re-ranking; comparison of information retrieval systems and approximate search; probability ranking principle and alternatives; interdisciplinary approaches; user and relevance; result diversification and query disambiguation; and logical operators and descriptive approaches.
Due to the changing climate, food security for the increasing population has raised a great threat globally. Therefore, it is imperative to find alternate solutions for enhancing agricultural sustainability through plant stress physiology. The concept of plant stress physiology has been well-established over the past 60 years due to the increasing trends of environmental stress. Researchers have found that crop stress physiology has an association with two main areas, one is concerned with agronomy, the other concerned with plant breeding. The contents of the current book emphasize the integration of both breeding and agronomy strategies to ensure agricultural productivity and environmental safety under changing climate.
This comprehensive guidebook will help you learn about the dynamic realm of organic farming, where sustainable agricultural practices converge with innovative methodologies. Dig into fundamental procedures for encouraging nutrient-dense soil, cultivating a diverse spectrum of organic harvests, and implementing effective pest management strategies devoid of synthetic chemicals. This book provides seasoned agriculturalists and aspiring horticulturists alike with essential tools and empirical insights to foster farms that are strong and resilient, with an emphasis on principles rooted in biodiversity and ecological equilibrium. The topics cover the intricacies of composting, methods for the bes...
In this book, the special efforts are spent to synthesis of Pristine and Palladium doped Bismuth Ferrite using various methods and finally one method is chosen to continue this research that is Sol-Gel method. Then, the synthesized samples are characterized by various characterization techniques. Finally, these samples are tested for gas sensors and photoactive applications. Chapter I presents the fundamental of various gas sensors and synthesis, structure properties and applications of Bismuth Ferrite. Chapter II deals with experimental techniques like X-ray Diffraction, Scanning Electron Microscopy, Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy, Impedance spectroscopy, etc. Chapter III covers synthesis of pristine Bismuth ferrite using Sol-Gel method, synthesis of palladium doped Bismuth ferrite. Further, all results arediscussed related to gas sensing performance and photo-activity with various parameters. Chapter IV is devoted to summarize this research and future work. I hope that the book in its present form may be more suitable. I thank the publishers, Horizon Books Publication Delhi, whole heartedly for cooperation and goodwill. Dr. Shivaji Devrao Waghamare
