MAHISHASUR: The Irony of Justice

Is evil hereditary? Is righteousness a birth-right? Are the Gods guilty of favouritism and nepotism? A discriminatory and divisive society often treacherously conspires against its brothers, turning them into loathsome creatures. Marginalized by a judgmental world and misguided by a vile Guru, Mahishasur becomes the tyrant he never wanted to be. On the other hand, Indra – the narcissistic, complacent King of Amaravati, faces the demons of his past and tries to rise above his petty insecurities and bloated vanity. The central characters vacillate between the ambiguous values of morality and truth. The chasm between wrong and the wronged narrows drastically in this fast-paced, adrenaline-infused, and thought-provoking narrative. Blinded by malignant revenge, and seething with hatred, Mahishasur starts on the labyrinthine path towards elusive justice. He destroys the world and himself, till the tragic hero comes face to face with his invincible nemesis: the Divine Mother. Will the absolute definitions of good and evil be rewritten by the Devi? Hues in Ink

Hues in Ink is a collection of 25 poems which traverse a plethora of themes. Just like the visual world has a multitude of colours to adorn, beautify and enhance our experiences, the emotional world has feelings, emotions, thoughts, opinions, and philosophies. This book brings to you the culmination of a tryst of these two worlds. It associates colours with words and words with more than what words can say. We are all on a journey Where to? I don’t know yet. But I see the drowning sun, the wallowing minds, the torrential rains, the gusty thoughts, the zooming cars, the racing hearts to which I write… with the hope that it stays. Hues in Ink is not just a book. It is a journey across the spectrum of emotions on the wheels of poetry. Is it one you’re willing to take?

Silence Has Secrets

‘Will you marry a rape survivor?’ When this question was asked in a class at IIT Murshidabad, only to ignite a constructive discussion amongst students, no one imagined it would open a catacomb of long-buried secrets and lead to unimaginably dark crimes. The female students eagerly looked at their male counterparts for a response. The class topper, Safin, bravely answered that he would. Akash, scared that he’d be made fun of, quietly wrote on the bench, ‘Will girls marry a male rape survivor?’ Ranjan, the class’s back-bencher, seeing this, insulted Akash and even invited girls to rape him. It was all a joke for this quintessential trouble-maker, until next morning, when he was found naked, raped and brutally injured on the IIT-M campus. The web of suspects sprawl wide—it could have been Smita, a vociferous feminist, Fatima whose feelings for Akash could have motivated her to take revenge on his behalf, or Akash himself, who was mercilessly mocked by Ranjan in front of the whole class. Or maybe, there’s another unsuspected perpetrator, whose silence—and act of violence—has spoken way louder than words.
