Clean technology does not just aim to dilute or detoxify industrial waste. It aims to eliminate it by re-engineering the entire production cycle. As industry is constrained by regulations on the one hand and consumer pressure on the other, energy-efficient, resource-efficient and pollution-free production becomes imperative. It will be the next stage of industrial development. Using extensive empirical analysis of a range of different industrial sectors, this book shows how cleaner technology can be implemented, above all by the companies themselves. It looks at regulatory initiatives and focuses on how firms themselves can introduce the new technologies, systems and polices required.

Handbook of Performability Engineering

Dependability and cost effectiveness are primarily seen as instruments for conducting international trade in the free market environment. These factors cannot be considered in isolation of each other. This handbook considers all aspects of performability engineering. The book provides a holistic view of the entire life cycle of activities of the product, along with the associated cost of environmental preservation at each stage, while maximizing the performance.

Reports on Astronomy

volume XIX A of IAU Transactions contains the reports by Presidents of Commissions, covering the period July 1981 - June 1984. The topics of IAU Commissions deal with all of contemporary astronomy and the present volume therefore constitutes an exhaustive and unique record of astronomical research during this interval. It is particularly useful for astronomers and other scientists who want to gain an overview of a certain field, not necessarily near their own research area. Each Commission President was requested, by early 1984, to begin prep arations for the compilation of his/her Commission report. All members of Commissions were asked to supply details about their individual research pro grammes. The ensuing, very substantial task of concatenating was undertaken in late 1984 by the Presidents, often supported by a team of authors, all recog nized authorities in their fields. In order to preserve some measure of uni formity - which is in any case very difficult with so many authors - editorial guidelines were sent to Presidents, including the number of pages allotted to each Commission.

Written by a team of international experts in the field, Clean Production Strategies covers a wide range of topics, including principles of thermodynamics, quantitative assessments of material flows, the development of practical clean technologies, and the re-evaluation of our relationship with the environment. The book will be useful to government policy-makers, industrial decision-makers, plant managers, industrial engineers, economists, environmentalists, international regulatory agency personnel, and others interested in the topic.

The edited volume deals with different contours of data science with special reference to data management for the research innovation landscape. The data is becoming pervasive in all spheres of human, economic and development activity. In this context, it is important to take stock of what is being done in the data management area and begin to prioritize, consider and formulate adoption of a formal data management system including citation protocols for use by research communities in different disciplines and also address various technical research issues. The volume, thus, focuses on some of these issues drawing typical examples from various domains. The idea of this work germinated from th...

The book is intended for bachelors and graduated students, as well as researchers in social psychology, environmental psychology, conservation psychology, environmental education, education for sustainable development, cross-cultural psychology, and social sciences.

Since the turn of the twenty first century, there has been a trend for urban "mega events" to be awarded to cities and nations in the East and Global South. Such events have been viewed as economic stimulant as well as opportunities to promote national identity, gain greater international recognition and exercise a form of 'soft power.' However, there has also been on-going controversy about the value, impact and legacy of global mega events in these cities and nations. This book provides a critical examination of the ambition for spectacle that has emerged across the East and Global South. The chapters explore the theoretical and conceptual issues associated with mega-events and new forms o...
