Supporting Family Carers of Older People in Europe - The National Background Report for Portugal
In the field of ageing there is a wide range of services available for the elderly, but hardly any direct support for caring family carers. Nevertheless, the majority of care for the elderly is provided by family members, especially women (wives and daughters). As a result, caring for the elderly often brings additional costs for the family. This publication presents the legal status and social situation of family carers in Portugal, explains the range of services available for the elderly and their family carers and points out some challenges for the future developments.

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the First International Workshop on Gerotechnology, IWoG 2018, held in Cáceres, Spain on December 14, 2018, and in Évora, Portugal, on December 17, 2018. This two-volume set constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Human Aspects of IT for the Aged Population, ITAP 2021, held as part of the 23rd International Conference, HCI International 2021, held as a virtual event, in July 2021. The total of 1276 papers and 241 posters included in the 39 HCII 2021 proceedings volumes was carefully reviewed and selected from 5222 submissions. The International Journal of Child and Family Welfare publishes empirical papers (including meta-analyses) and review papers, dealing with issues related to all fields of child and family welfare and with issues related to child and youth care (e.g., home-based care, family foster care, residential youth care).
