Sports Nutrition & Performance Enhancing Supplements

"Which of the following will yield the fastest measurable change in performance and/or body composition? (A) changes in training. (B) changes in diet. (C) use of sports supplements. (D) they all work equally well. If you answered 'C,' go to the head of the class. That's right; the proper use of sports supplements can produce changes in minutes (e.g. caffeine), days (e.g. creatine) and weeks (e.g. beta-alanine). Yet we are bombarded by muddled thinking from the mainstream media telling us that 'creatine causes cramps,' 'high protein diets are bad for your kidneys,' 'supplements aren't needed as long as you eat a balanced diet' and other ideas that are void of data. Sports Nutrition & Performance Enhancing Supplements (eds. Abbie Smith-Ryan PhD CSCS*D CISSN and Jose Antonio PhD FNSCA FISSN. Linus Publications) is a focused resource that will give you the latest sports nutrition science, and eradicate the intellectually lazy positions held so dearly by the anti-supplement crowd."--Amazon.

The contents of these proceedings reflect the intention of the organizers of the workshop to bring together scientists and engineers having a strong interest in interdisciplinary work in the fields of computer science, mathematics and applied statistics. Results of this collaboration are illustrated in problems dealing with neural nets, statistics and networks, classification and data mining, and (machine) learning.

Analogical and Inductive Inference

This volume contains the text of the five invited papers and 16 selected contributions presented at the third International Workshop on Analogical and Inductive Inference, AII `92, held in Dagstuhl Castle, Germany, October 5-9, 1992. Like the two previous events, AII '92 was intended to bring together representatives from several research communities, in particular, from theoretical computer science, artificial intelligence, and from cognitive sciences. The papers contained in this volume constitute a state-of-the-art report on formal approaches to algorithmic learning, particularly emphasizing aspects of analogical reasoning and inductive inference. Both these areas are currently attracting strong interest: analogical reasoning plays a crucial role in the booming field of case-based reasoning, and, in the fieldof inductive logic programming, there have recently been developed a number of new techniques for inductive inference.

Machine Learning - EWSL-91

In this book contemporary knowledge of superconductivity is set against its historical background. First, the highlights of superconductivity research in the twentieth century are reviewed. Further contributions then describe the basic phenomena resulting from the macroscopic quantum state of superconductivity (such as zero resistivity, the Meissner-Ochsenfeld effect, and flux quantization) and review possible mechaniscs, including the classical BCS theory and the more recent alternative theories. The main categories of superconductors - elements, intermetallic phases, chalcogenides, oxides and organic compounds - are described. Common features and differences in their structure and electronic properties are pointed out. This broad overview of superconductivity is completed by a discussion of properties related to the coherence length. Newcomers to the field who seek an overall picture of research in superconductivity, and of the cross-links between its branches, will find this volume especially useful.

As schools continue to explore the transition from traditional education to teaching and learning online, new instructional design frameworks are needed that can support with the development of e-learning content. The e-learning frameworks examined within this book have eight dimensions: (1) institutional, (2) pedagogical, (3) technological, (4) interface design, (5) evaluation, (6) management, (7) resource support, and (8) ethical. Each of these dimensions contains a group of concerns or issues that need to be examined to assess and develop an institutions e-capability in order to introduce the best e-learning practices. Learning with Technologies and Technologies in Learning

Education has always been one of the cornerstones for societal evolution and economic growth. We are currently witnessing a significant transformation in the development of education and especially post-secondary education. The use of technology impacts the way educational content is presented and acquired in many areas. The designs of immersive educational worlds and the combination of rational and emotional educational experiences that cannot be designed in the same way in the traditional classroom will come increasingly into focus. Seen in this way the book also contributes to generalize the experience of the COVID-19 crisis and its impact to quality of learning and education. Scientifica...

Linus The Little Yellow Pencil

Linus and his eraser, Ernie, don't always see eye to eye. But with the family art show drawing near, these two will have to sharpen their collaboration to make something neither one could do on their own! This ode to art by the illustrator of Spoon and Chopsticks points out the power of sharing the creative process and sticking with it.
