This volume constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 6th Workshop on Engineering Applications, WEA 2019, held in Santa Marta, Colombia, in October 2019. The 62 revised full papers and 2 short papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 178 submissions. The papers are organized in the following topical sections: computer science; computational intelligence; bioengineering; Internet of things; power applications; simulation systems; optimization.
This book provides an open platform to establish and share knowledge developed by scholars, scientists, and engineers from all over the world, about various applications of the modeling and simulation in the design process of products, in various engineering fields. The book consists of 12 chapters arranged in two sections (3D Modeling and Virtual Prototyping), reflecting the multidimensionality of applications related to modeling and simulation. Some of the most recent modeling and simulation techniques, as well as some of the most accurate and sophisticated software in treating complex systems, are applied. All the original contributions in this book are jointed by the basic principle of a successful modeling and simulation process: as complex as necessary, and as simple as possible. The idea is to manipulate the simplifying assumptions in a way that reduces the complexity of the model (in order to make a real-time simulation), but without altering the precision of the results.
Comparing the experience of East Asia and Latin America since the mid-1970s, Elson identifies the key internal factors common to each region which have allowed East Asia to take advantage of the trade, financial, and technological impact of a more globalized economy to support its development, while Latin America has not.
This book is an up-to-date reference on phosphorus nutrition in plants. Phosphorus has no substitute in food production, and the use of phosphate (Pi) fertilisers has increased crop yields to feed billions of people. This book covers phosphorus metabolism and phosphorus sensing molecular mechanisms and signalling in plants. It covers functions of phosphorus and crosstalk with other nutrients. It discusses how plants sense Pi deficiency and coordinate the responses via signalling pathways and networks for the regulation of Pi-deficiency responses. FEATURES Discusses the latest developments in phosphate management in plants Provides insights on emerging topics for sustainable approaches to managing phosphate shortage Throws light on the resilience of plants to phosphate deficiency Provides extensive updates that serve as primary points for further research Explains molecular and physiological mechanisms of phosphate transport This book compiles the latest research from experts in the field. It is useful for advanced graduates and researchers in plant sciences and agriculture.
Recognizing the vast numbers of old and young people alike that interact, socialize, and learn through gameplay, this book explores research approaches to games, their literacies, and the pedagogical possibilities of play. Consequentially, this volume is rooted in the idea that powerful forms of learning, communication, and multimodal production occur through and because of gaming. These profound literacy practices can mirror traditional literacies but the educational field’s approach to engaging in a pedagogy of playful literacies has been largely scattershot. By bringing together diverse voices, contexts, and research designs, the chapters in this volume present a snapshot of 21st centur...
This book tackles the recent research trends on the role of AI in advancing automotive manufacturing, augmented reality, sustainable development in smart cities, telemedicine, and robotics. It sheds light on the recent AI innovations in classical machine learning, deep learning, Internet of Things (IoT), Blockchain, knowledge representation, knowledge management, big data, and natural language processing (NLP). The edited book covers empirical and reviews studies that primarily concentrate on the aforementioned issues, which would assist scholars in pursuing future research in the domain and identifying the possible future developments of AI applications.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 5th IEEE Colombian Conference on Applications of Computational Intelligence, ColCACI 2022, held in Cali, Colombia during July 27–29, 2022. The 7 extended papers included in this book were carefully reviewed and selected from 38 submissions. They were organized in topical sections as follows: Design of a segmentation and classification system for seed detection based on pixel intensity thresholds and convolutional neural networks.
