John Masur (d.1855) married Mary Kluckner, and the family immigrated in 1852 or 1853 (from Switzerland or Austria) to Lockport, Illinois. The parents died during a cholera epidemic, leaving three children (two boys and a girl--who located each other again as adults, and all decided to spell their surname Masear). Descendants lived in Illinois, Ohio, Indiana, Iowa, Washington and elsewhere. Some descendants immigrated to Saskatchewan, British Columbia and else- where in Canada.
