This volume deals with those Christians who helped construct an international and inter-denominational evangelical network in western Europe in the middle of the nineteenth century. The Evangelical Alliance (est. 1846) institutionalised this ecumenical impulse. The Berlin Conference (1857) was the high-point of cross-border cooperation in those decades. The réveil in France and Switzerland and the Erweckung in Germany laid the groundwork for the Alliance in Europe. England, the motherland of the evangelical revival, provided a resource centre for continental evangelicalism. The chapters on the various missionary endeavours at home and abroad draw attention to the outward-looking, charitable and evangelistic character of evangelicals. Students of evangelicalism, the missionary movement and the ecumenical movement will find the book to be of particular importance.

Gulchin' Out

Born in 1918, Vince Garrod lived on the family property in Saratoga, CA his entire life. He, his brother and his sister grew up without running water and without cars. He learned to drive when he was 8 and got his license at 14. He grew up picking prunes and cutting apricots. He stacked trays and hauled hay. He watched the world put a man on the moon and learn to communicate instantly via email. In the 1960s he moved the family business from prunes and apricots to horses and vineyards, and later wine. In 1970 he fell off a haystack and broke a hip, so during his forced inactivity he bought himself an Osborne computer and taught himself how to use it. He never sat back and expected something ...

Part textbook, part life-story, part theological exposé, Understanding Haitian Voodoo comes from a much-respected Haitian gentleman who writes as a lawyer, judge, and evangelist who cares deeply about his people and their bondage in Voodoo. "Voodoo is not simply a myth, toward which we can remain indifferent. It is not just popular culture that we should teach and practice in schools through dances and songs. The gods of Voodoo are not simply idols or harmless gods. They are real beings, intelligent beings, they lust after worship and are full of cruelty." With testimonies from Voodoo priests, followers, witch doctors and more, Understanding Haitian Voodoo is a deep observation of Haitian V...

Letters to My Father

This book tells the autobiography of my father, his years in Haiti, and his transition as an immigrant in foreign lands. His personal account mirrors the daily struggles one may face under the Duvaliers' regimes in the sixties through the mid of eighties to cultural shock and identity in other countries. Growing up, he experiences a lot of different emotions regarding his father's absence from the home along with dealing with his sudden death that had such an impact on his life. He tells this story in a narrative to inform his deceased father about his life. In his prime years, his dad caresses the hem of his mother's skirt, expressing how close the pair were. Hence, his mother taught him do...
