This art exhibition catalog focuses on Milton Avery's (1885-1965) two most important patrons and their personal approaches to collecting his work. Louis Kaufman (1905-1994), a noted violinist, was the first person to purchase an oil painting from Avery, while The Phillips Collection, founded by Duncan Phillips, was the first museum to acquire work by Avery and the first to exhibit the artist's work.
