Het Psychiatrisch Ziekenhuis Onze-Lieve-Vrouw in Brugge bestaat ruim 100 jaar. Naar aanleiding van de viering van het 100-jarig bestaan in 2010, ging de auteur op zoek naar de voorgeschiedenis van de opvang van ‘geesteskranken’ in Brugge. De lezer wordt meegenomen tot in de twaalfde eeuw. Daarna volgt de geschiedenis van 100 jaar Psychiatrisch Ziekenhuis Onze-Lieve-Vrouw Brugge (1910-2010) en de kennismaking met twee eminente hoofdgeneesheren van deze instelling: Albert De Haene (1910-1961) en Hubert Ronse (1928-2010). Hun biografie wordt verweven met de geschiedenis van de instelling. Ook de professionele activiteiten van de twee psychiaters buiten het ziekenhuis komen aan bod.
