This volume presents the peer-reviewed proceedings of the XXIII DAE-BRNS High Energy Physics Symposium 2018, which was held at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, India, on 10-15 December 2018. Gathering selected contributions, the book highlights the latest developments and research trends in physics, detectors and instrumentation relevant to all branches of particle physics, astroparticle physics and closely related fields. In the twenty years since Zabusky and Kruskal coined the term ``soliton'', this concept changed the outlook on certain types of nonlinear phenomena and found its way into all branches of physics. The present volume deals with a great variety of applications of the new concept in condensed-matter physics, which is particularly reached in experimentally observable occurrences. The presentation is not centred around the mathematical aspects; the emphasis is on the physical nature of the nonlinear phenomena occurring in particular situations.With its emphasis on concrete, mostly experimentally verifiable cases, ``Solitons'' constitutes a very readable and instructive introduction to the subject as well as an up-to-date account of current developments in a field of research reaching maturity.

The Sixth International Symposium "Frontiers of Fundamental and Computational Physics", Udine, Italy, 26-29 September 2004, aimed at providing a platform for a wide range of physicists to meet and share thoughts on the latest trends in various, mainly cross-disciplinary research areas. This includes the exploration of frontier lines in High Energy Physics, Theoretical Physics, Gravitation and Cosmology, Astrophysics, Condensed Matter Physics, Fluid Mechanics. Such frontier lines were unified by the use of computers as an, often primary, research instruments, or dealing with issues related to information theory. The University of Manchester hosted the 28th International Symposium on Shock Waves between 17 and 22 July 2011. The International Symposium on Shock Waves first took place in 1957 in Boston and has since become an internationally acclaimed series of meetings for the wider Shock Wave Community. The ISSW28 focused on the following areas: Blast Waves, Chemically Reacting Flows, Dense Gases and Rarefied Flows, Detonation and Combustion, Diagnostics, Facilities, Flow Visualisation, Hypersonic Flow, Ignition, Impact and Compaction, Multiphase Flow, Nozzle Flow, Numerical Methods, Propulsion, Richtmyer-Meshkov, Shockwave Boundary Layer Interaction, Shock Propagation and Reflection, Shock Vortex Interaction, Shockwave Phenomena and Applications, as well as Medical and Biological Applications. The two Volumes contain the papers presented at the symposium and serve as a reference for the participants of the ISSW 28 and individuals interested in these fields.
