Directory of Secondary Schools in the United States, Showing Accredited Status, Enrollment, Staff, and Other Data
This publication is intended to be both a directory of secondary schools in the United States and roster or high schools which are accredited by state and regional accrediting agencies. It is the first comprehensive list of secondary schools the Office has issued. From the standpoint of accrediting it is a continuation or the Office's practice of issuing periodically a list or those schools which have been accredited by state and regional accrediting agencies.
Clerical & Custodial Staff in Public Secondary Day Schools [1951-52]
In 1956 secondary schools in this country will begin to face rapidly expanding enrollments as the population bulge with which the elementary schools have been struggling will reach the junior high school years in full force. Provision for adequate, competent teaching staff and sufficient housing to care for expected enrollment increases is now of vital concern to school administrators, principals, and the public. It is possible for a similar shortage to exist in high school service-personnel, particularly clerical and custodial staff. To acquaint the educational profession and interested laymen with the current numerical status of clerical and custodial staff in public high schools, the Office of Education offers this circular. The data in it portray current practice on assignment of clerks and custodians by size of school, type of school, and size of place.
How Large are Our Public High Schools?
The purpose of this report is not to provide answers to the question of whether the high school should be larger or smaller. Its aim is chiefly to provide the facts, State by State, whereby educators may see what the sizes of the high schools are in each of the several States and how those in one State compare with those of another. It is therefore a statistical report arranged to present data which are readily comparable one State with another and one size group with another. Schools must be planned and organized in keeping with geographic and climatic conditions, population sparsity, and road development, as well as educational factors. The statistics presented herein must be considered with due regard for such factors.
