The Depiction of Poland and Poles in The Daily Telegraph, 2007-2010
A country’s distinct image is directly related to its recognisability in the international arena and, as a result, greater potential for influencing other countries and global affairs more effectively. In fact, a country’s image exerts an effect not only on the perception of this country abroad, but also on attitudes to whatever concerns the country—its products, services and places, as well as its residents. This book explores the image of Poland as constituted by articles published in the online version of The Daily Telegraph from 2007 to 2010. Therefore, this investigation answers the questions of how one of the most influential British newspapers was depicting a certain section of the Polish reality and, consequently, of the elements that were usually foregrounded and of the way in which they were presented to the readers. Firmly grounded in the context of an outline of PR measures adopted by the Polish administration in the years 2007-2010, the study also indicates the extent to which the image of Poland as portrayed in the online version of the British newspaper reflected the Polish government’s PR objectives of that time.
On the Move to Meaningful Internet Systems: OTM 2008 Workshops
This volume constitutes the refereed proceedings of 13 international workshops held as part of OTM 2008 in Monterrey, Mexico, in November 2008. The 106 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of 171 submissions to the workshops. Legal Knowledge and Information Systems
The 22nd edition of the JURIX conference was held in Rotterdam on the 17th and 18th December and was hosted by the Erasmus University Rotterdam. While the conference was back to its country of origin, JURIX continues to attract a wide international audience. This year, the conference received submissions from all five continents. This clearly demonstrates the lively and growing interest for the highly interdisciplinary discipline of legal informatics. The selection of papers for this edition of JURIX covers a wide variety of topics in legal informatics, including contributions on established fields such as legal document management, argumentation, case based reasoning, dispute resolution, support for legal drafting and ontologies, to emerging areas such as regulatory compliance, normative multi-agent systems and game theory, as well as application areas, for example, fraud detection, legal tutoring systems and legal decision support systems.

Human Trafficking as a New (In)Security Threat

The New Geopolitics of the South Caucasus
This collection surveys the three South Caucasian states’ economic, social and political evolution since their independence in 1991. It assesses their successes and failures in these areas, including their attempts to build new national identities and value systems to replace Soviet-era structures. It explains the interplay of domestic and international factors that have affected their performance and influenced the balance of their successes and shortcomings. It focuses on the policies pursued by key regional and international actors towards the region and assesses the effects of regional and international rivalries on these states’ development, as well as on the prospects for regional cooperation and conflict resolution. Advances in Natural Language Processing
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 9th International Conference on Advances in Natural Language Processing, PolTAL 2014, Warsaw, Poland, in September 2014. Three Revolutions: Mobilization and Change in Contemporary Ukraine I
Volume One of Three Revolutions presents the overall research and discussions on topics related to the revolutionary events that have unfolded in Ukraine since 1990. The three revolutions referred to in this project include: the Revolution on Granite (1990); the Orange Revolution (2004–2005); and the Euromaidan Revolution (2013–2014). The project’s overall goal was to determine the extent to which we have the right to use the term “revolution” in relation to these events. Moreover, the research also uncovered the methodological problems associated with this task. Lastly, the project investigated to what extent the three revolutions are connected to each other and to what extent they are detached. Hence, the research in this volume not only discusses the theoretical aspects but also provides new analyses on such issues as religion, memory, and identity in Ukraine.
