The eighth volume of the International Yearbook of Futurism Studies is again an open issue and presents in its first section new research into the international impact of Futurism on artists and artistic movements in France, Great Britain, Hungary and Sweden. This is followed by a study that investigates a variety of Futurist inspired developments in architecture, and an essay that demonstrates that the Futurist heritage was far from forgotten after the Second World War. These papers show how a wealth of connections linked Futurism with Archigram, Metabolism, Archizoom and Deconstructivism, as well as the Nuclear Art movement, Spatialism, Environmental Art, Neon Art, Kinetic Art and many oth...

Pombo

  • Categories: Art

Presents the entire arc of Marcelo Pombo, an artist whose works during the 1990s were considered the emblem of an artistic movement that intended to overthrow the gravity of political art and the "airs" of neoconceptualism by means of an idea of beauty dismissed by some critics as banal and merely decorative.

Visualizing Loss in Latin America

Visualizing Loss in Latin America engages with a varied corpus of textual, visual, and cultural material with specific intersections with the natural world, arguing that Latin American literary and cultural production goes beyond ecocriticism as a theoretical framework of analysis. Gisela Heffes poses the following crucial question: How do we construct a conceptual theoretical apparatus to address issues of value, meaning, tradition, perspective, and language, that contributes substantially to environmental thinking, and that is part and parcel of Latin America? The book draws attention to ecological inequality and establishes a biopolitical, ethics-based reading of Latin American art, film, and literature that operates at the intersection of the built environment and urban settings. Heffes suggests that the aesthetic praxis that emerges in/from Latin America is permeated with a rhetoric of waste—a significant trait that overwhelmingly defines it.

Cosmopolitan Film Cultures in Latin America, 1896–1960

Cosmopolitan Film Cultures in Latin America examines how cinema forged cultural connections between Latin American publics and film-exporting nations in the first half of the twentieth century. Predating today's transnational media industries by several decades, these connections were defined by active economic and cultural exchanges, as well as longstanding inequalities in political power and cultural capital. The essays explore the arrival and expansion of cinema throughout the region, from the first screenings of the Lumière Cinématographe in 1896 to the emergence of new forms of cinephilia and cult spectatorship in the 1940s and beyond. Examining these transnational exchanges through t...

The edition is probably the more comprehensive book on Alberto Greco (b. Argentina 1931-1965) that has been published to date, comprising texts from different authors, letters, photographs, unpublished documents and a series of drawings made by artist Alberto Passolini, that recreate Grecoœs ephemeral artworks of which they are no records. Although in an attempt to clarify some aspects of his life, through the contribution of new documentation, we did not intended to distinguish to the extreme reality from fiction, myth from reality, but more precisely - to respect the rules of the game, we tried to "stretch" the legend and include more information about some episodes from imaginative strategies. We understand that, for certain, the interpretations proposed by the drawings of Passolini provide a new perspective that enriches what is so far known." (HKB Translation) --Page 22.
