Ecosystem Services
The ecosystem services (ES) framework opens the door to common ground between ecology science and economics in facing the challenge of planetary sustainability. Application of the available methodologies and instruments reveals both the high potential and the controversies related to this new socio-ecological management approach. Feeding on the research, reviews and testimonies presented at the XV International Summer School on Environment (ISSE) of the University of Girona (2015), this proceedings book displays the main concepts related the ES approach and outcomes from case studies dealing with its operationalization. However, the ultimate goal of this crosswalk language remains; changing mentalities and raising awareness to the point of installing new socio-ecological values, leading society to economic models in which ES conservation is understood as subsistence premise and therefore an intrinsic component of profits.\n \n
Urban Dynamics in the Post-pandemic Period
This book offers a unique perspective on urban processes affecting tourist spaces and city centres. Economic, social and environmental uncertainty has been commonplace since March 2019, when mobility slowed down across the globe. The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated trends that have been investigated in urban space for years. The incorporation of technologies, the expansion of tourism and the introduction of policies that in part want to advance sustainability are generating processes of reorganisation of territories that are driving changes. El setembre de 2011 es va celebrar a Girona l’onzena edició de la International Summer School on the Environment (ISSE). En aquesta ocasió, la temàtica de l’escola fou la governança de la sostenibilitat i el canvi climàtic en l'àmbit local, i es plantejaven com a eixos centrals els següents punts: \n\nGenerar un aparador de bones pràctiques en el govern del desenvolupament sostenible a l’àmbit local i regional.Abordar les polítiques, els instruments i la recerca per a la lluita contra el canvi climàtic des de l’àmbit local i regional.Transferir coneixements i experiències entre els diversos agents implicats en el desenvolupament sostenible a l’àmbit local i regional: món acadèmic i de la recerca, alumnat universitari, representats polítics del món local, tècnics municipals i comarcals, empreses i professionals del sector mediambiental i col·lectius ambientalistes. \n
