The Search for Ephraim
Ephraim Dickson Hayes was born in the south in 1825. He married twice and had 16 children. He ws taken prisoner during the Civil War and while incarcerated his wife died while pregnant and searching for him. He later married Mahalia Jane Eastlick Gage and they had nine of the 16 children. They eventually traveled west and settled in the northwest. Ephraim seemed unable to settle down and eventually left his family and returned east. Information on his ancestors and those of Mahalia are included in this volume along with biographical material on several of their descendants.
