This book examines the process of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) in Brazil through the lens of community involvement. The author argues that the implementation of controversial projects, such as the Volta Grande mining project, demonstrate the failure of the current system to acknowledge the interests of local communities. Using international comparisons of public policy on environmental issues, the author proposes a model which aims to improve public participation in Brazilian environmental decisions.

A obra detalha as ações de agentes sociais na construção do espaço na região de Carajás. Geoamazônia - Nº 01
A Revista GEOAMAZÔNIA foi criada pelo Curso de Mestrado em Geografia da Universidade Federal do Pará nas áreas de Gestão Urbana e Regional, o primeiro mestrado stricto sensu da região Norte. A edição número um apresenta, em sua maioria, artigos dos alunos da primeira turma do Mestrado em Geografia, além da contribuição de professores do programa e de alguns profissionais do ramo em outras instituições. O intuito é divulgar as produções científicas produzidas no Programa de Pós-Graduação em Geografia e estimular o conhecimento na área, sem excluir a participação de outros profissionais que queiram contribuir divulgando suas pesquisas. Nesse sentido, a revista é interdisciplinar e tem a intenção de estabelecer uma troca com outras publicações de instituições nacionais e internacionais.
