Ancestors of Timothy W Hogan Vol. 2 Family Groups
The ancestors of Timothy Hogan can be traced from Greene County, Tennessee before the Civil War to Haddon Hall in Derbyshire, England where his ancestors were Lords and Ladies of ancient England and Wales. Many lines go back to the ancient leaders of Wales including Rhys aps Griffith and to the Merovingian Kings and Queens of Normandy, France. Timothy's Swedish line, which came to Iowa in the USA, came directly from Sweden where they can be traced back to the sea kings of Uppsala, Sweden in about 500 AD. Continuing back some of his European ancestors, they can be traced to Seleucus Nicator in ancient Syria, the father of Helen of Troy. It is easy to imagine that some of the members of the Hogan Family retained the ambition and traits of their ancient ancestors. Many of his forefathers in Colonial America were Freemasons and instrumental in forming the burgeoning American Nation. Circumstantial Qualifiers in Semitic
With inspiration from the Arabic hal-concept this book investigates circumstantial clauses in Arabic and Hebrew. It formulates a modern linguistic definition of the concept of 'circumstantial qualifier' and offers corpus-based pilot studies on circumstantial qualifiers in Pre-classical and Classical Arabic, Pre-exilic Hebrew, Modern literary Arabic and Modern spoken Gulf Arabic. With 'circumstantial clause combining' as the basic analytic concept Bo Isaksson presents a study of comparative ancient Arabic and ancient Hebrew text linguistics applied to a corpus of narrative prose texts. As a corollary Isaksson also presents a reconsideration of the so-called 'tenses' in Arabic and Hebrew. Helene Kammensjo investigates the logic behind the remarkable variation of circumstantial qualifiers (CQ) in a choice of Arabic novels from the two last decades. Her approach is to pick out a few frequent CQ constructions and do a systematic study. Maria Persson surveys the forms and functions of CQs both separately and in relation to their head clauses and discusses areas of grammaticalization and ambiguity related to CQs in Gulf Arabic dialects on the basis of texts from her own field studies.
New Perspectives in Biblical and Rabbinic Hebrew
Most of the papers in this volume originated as presentations at the conference Biblical Hebrew and Rabbinic Hebrew: New Perspectives in Philology and Linguistics, which was held at the University of Cambridge, 8–10th July, 2019. The aim of the conference was to build bridges between various strands of research in the field of Hebrew language studies that rarely meet, namely philologists working on Biblical Hebrew, philologists working on Rabbinic Hebrew and theoretical linguists. This volume is the published outcome of this initiative. It contains peer-reviewed papers in the fields of Biblical and Rabbinic Hebrew that advance the field by the philological investigation of primary sources and the application of cutting-edge linguistic theory. Swedes in Canada
Since 1776, more than 100,000 Swedish-speaking immigrants have arrived in Canada from Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Ukraine, and the United States. Elinor Barr’s Swedes in Canada is the definitive history of that immigrant experience. Active in almost every aspect of Canadian life, Swedish individuals and companies are responsible for the CN Tower, ships on the Great Lakes, and log buildings in Riding Mountain National Park. They have built railways and grain elevators all across the country, as well as churches and old folks’ homes in their communities.
