The inspiring story of Graça Machel, and her dream to instill a love for reading and learning in the children of Mozambique and the rest of Africa.
Liziwe is a story of triumph against the odds. Set in the end of the seventies, the story is a harrowing account of the survival of the siblings of Ncadana following the simultaneous death of parents. The tumultuous events narrated in the story include Liziwe waking up very early in the morning, feeling that something is amiss. Soon thereafter, Manyawuza, the next-door neighbour, makes a gruesome discovery of Liziwes dead father, which is followed in quick succession by the death of Nonzame, Liziwes mother. The elders of the clan of AmaQwathi gather, and they decide to arrange marriage for Liziwe. On hearing this, Liziwe decides to run away from home, together with her siblings, in the process initiating a whirlwind of events that take the orphaned children of Ncadana to Johannesburg and back. Once more, Monde Nkasawe has wonderfully woven together a complex story that gives hope and which honours some of the best values of humanity, especially of lending a helping hand even to a stranger. Liziwe is no doubt a drama with which South Africans of all races and classes, fellow Africans and indeed people everywhere in the world, will definitely identify with.
"Director of the Generali Foundation from 2008 to 2014, Sabine Folie helped establish the institution's reputation for generating new critical discussion on contemporary art through revisiting modernism. This survey publication, illustrated with photographs and source materials, documents the collection of works acquired during Folie's tenure. Essays by theorists and artists reflect on contemporary art themes exploring areas such as linguistic devices, the dismantling of representation and the reorganization of pictorial space, the changing role of artist and museums, the relationship between subject and environment due to globalization and post-colonialism, artistic processing of history and the production of memorial culture. Included are commentary and artworks by Lothar Baumgarten, Marcel Broodthaers, Ernst Caramelle, Peter Downsbrough, Harun Farocki, Morgan Fisher, Stéphane Mallarmé, Klaus Scherübel, Josef Strau, Ana Torfs, Joëlle Tuerlinckx, and Ian Wallace, among others."--Publisher.

In Mr Entertainment , we hear the voices of the people who knew Taliep Petersen best: his family, friends and collaborators. Their stories bring to life the spaces he inhabited, vividly recounting scenes from his childhood, his rise to fame from the Cape Coon Carnival stage to the West End, his artistic collaborations, most notably with David Kramer, his family life, and his tragic death and its aftermath. In this pioneering biography of one of Cape Town’s most beloved entertainers, we encounter Petersen as a complex and many-sided personality whose influence continues to reverberate in national life. Mr Entertainment evokes not just Taliep's life, but also the music and entertainment landscapes of the 1950s to 2000s and their diverse and irrepressible cultural traditions. Along the way, it brings us to the front row of South Africa’s difficult history. Drawing on the musician’s personal archive and on more than fifty interviews conducted over a decade, Paula Fourie has pieced together a fascinating portrait of Taliep Petersen, acutely observed and poignantly captured.

In 2018 the world watched as 82 per cent of all wealth created was claimed by the top 1 per cent of the global population. The bottom 50 per cent of humanity saw no increase at all. While one new billionaire was created every two days, one in every four South Africans were living on less than R18 per day – not enough to buy a loaf of bread. Inequality has always been part of the world we live in, but in the past twenty years the situation has worsened. We have seen the rise of mega corporations, where regional companies have become global players: power brokers that are richer and more powerful than most countries. This has seen businesses record ever-increasing profits while they pay ever...
The pandemic proved that it is one thing to sit around waiting for scientists to develop a vaccine against a new virus, but it is quite another for doctors and dietitians to tell people to ignore a weapon already close at hand, in their kitchens, that can protect them from the worst effects of COVID-19 infection. That weapon is a low-carb, high-fat diet ... It took a viral pandemic to reinvigorate the evidence that a low-carb, high-fat (LCHF) diet may be a ‘vaccine’ against ill health and premature death. The Eat Right Revolution exposes the real pandemic we should all worry about – not another coronavirus, but a diet-related medical condition that threatens people’s life expectancy ...
