The book provides a series of reflections on the study of architectural preexistences that have matured during the almost thirty-five years of study and research in Italy and Europe. Furthermore, it shows how the discipline of restoration of monuments is all based in architecture, intended in its many-faceted meanings. The methodical approach to the restoration of historic architecture consists in the historical-critical analysis, central nucleus of the study of architecture and is composed by specific in-depth thematic sessions (the historical iconography; the analysis of the constructive features; the constructive model; the volumetric layout; metrological and proportional analysis; the th...
| The intrinsic appeal of urban surveys is to try and portray large parts of the anthropised city using iconic models. Models that also allow us to interpret stratified sections of roads, even very long roads. The survey of Via della Lungaretta is one such survey graphically representing all the formal invariants of the physical characteristics of the 'place'. The article illustrates the process used to understand this part of the city, starting with a metric survey, how it is perceived, and finally its chromatic characteristics.
Communities have witnessed a fundamental shift in the ways they interact with heritage sites. Much of this change has been driven by the rapid democratization and widespread adoption of enabling technologies. As expediency is embraced in the collection and analysis of data, there may also be a certain amount of intimacy lost with both the tangible and intangible vestiges of the past. Analysis, Conservation, and Restoration of Tangible and Intangible Cultural Heritage is a collection of innovative research on the quantitative methods and digital workflows transforming cultural heritage. There is no contesting the value of advanced non-destructive diagnostic imaging techniques for the analysis of heritage structures and objects. Highlighting topics including 3D modeling, conservation, and digital surveying, this book is ideally designed for conservation and preservation specialists, archaeologists, anthropologists, historians, academicians, and students seeking current research on data-driven, evidence-based decision making to improve intervention outcomes.
The effective use of technology offers numerous benefits in protecting cultural heritage. With the proper implementation of these tools, the management and conservation of artifacts and knowledge are better attained. The Handbook of Research on Emerging Technologies for Digital Preservation and Information Modeling is an authoritative resource for the latest research on the application of current innovations in the fields of architecture and archaeology to promote the conservation of cultural heritage. Highlighting a range of real-world applications and digital tools, this book is ideally designed for upper-level students, professionals, researchers, and academics interested in the preservation of cultures.
This book contains extended versions of selected papers from the 3rd edition of the International Symposium CompIMAGE. These contributions include cover methods of signal and image processing and analysis to tackle problems found in medicine, material science, surveillance, biometric, robotics, defence, satellite data, traffic analysis and architecture, image segmentation, 2D and 3D reconstruction, data acquisition, interpolation and registration, data visualization, motion and deformation analysis and 3D vision.
| The survey of the Church of San Bernardino was yet another opportunity to test the concept of integrated survey using several methodologies including a topographic survey, a long range laser scanner and the elaboration of several high resolution panoramic images. It was a chance to assess the methodologies used during the survey and their potential, often still not fully exploited.
