Texts by M. Gausa, M. Cervello and M. Pla. Introduction by Mihail Moldoveanu. Text by Kenneth Frampton. Barcelona is among the world's most architecturally important cities, and this book is clear evidence why. Documenting the period from 1860 to the present, this study covers the famous works of Gaudi, of Jujol, and of Mies van der Rohe's Barcellona Pavillion proposal. Rationalist works from the fifties, large housing developments from the 1970s, the buildings from the Olympics: all of Barcelona's triumphs are covered here in detail.

Housing + Single-Family Housing

As cities evolve architects are constantly searching for appropriate architectonic solutions, and in this book the authors present a systematic examination of innovative single-family houses and residential buildings in the context of presentday cities. The latest developments are reviewed in essays and thematic chapters discuss such topics as lowenergy building, the use of prefabricated materials, or low-budget building. A range of international examples from architects such as Wiel Arets, Shigeru Ban, Ben van Berkel, Kees Christiaanse, Philippe Gazeau, Frank O. Gehry, Steven Holl, Hans Kollhoff, Morger & Degelo, MVRDV, Jean Nouvel, Kas Oosterhuis, illustrate the subjects discussed. "Housing" and "Single-Family Housing" were previously published separately, each proving hugely popular. Now both volumes have been incorporated into a single, lowpriced edition.

The Dark Precursor

Deleuze’s and Guattari’s philosophy in the field of artistic research Gilles Deleuze’s intriguing concept of the dark precursor refers to intensive processes of energetic flows passing between fields of different potentials. Fleetingly used in Difference and Repetition, it remained underexplored in Deleuze’s subsequent work. In this collection of essays numerous contributors offer perspectives on Deleuze’s concept of the dark precursor as it affects artistic research, providing a wide-ranging panorama on the intersection between music, art, philosophy, and scholarship. The forty-eight chapters in this publication present a kaleidoscopic view of different fields of knowledge and art...

Curating and the Legacies of Colonialism in Contemporary Iberia

  • Categories: Art

Combining postcolonial studies, curating and contemporary art, this book surveys the role played by artistic curatorship and contemporary art museums in the shaping of identities and cultural planning in contemporary Iberia. The book’s main hypothesis is that contemporary art has been pivotal in the construction of contemporary Iberia, a process marked by the attention paid (in heterogeneous, not always satisfactory ways) to the entanglement of the legacies of colonialism and the present-day status of Iberian territories as cosmopolitan societies now integrated in the European Union. We argue that, at least from the 1990s, curating emerged as a key activity for Iberian societies to display and configure an image of themselves as modern and fully integrated in the European cultural landscape. Such an image, however, had to cope with the legacies of colonialism and the profound socioeconomic transformations of these societies. This book is concerned with bringing together, while redefining and expanding, Iberian and curatorial studies.

Drawing from a variety of disciplines and theoretical frameworks, we examine space and its influence on writing practice. Practitioners explore the effect of space on their own writing, while others focus on understanding how famous writers lived and worked, and how they used space in their stories.
