Despite being separated by thousands of miles and shaped by distinctive national histories, the countries of Spain, Italy, and Argentina were intertwined in a variety of ways during the first half of the twentieth century. This collection brings scholars from each nation into conversation with one another to trace these complex historical connections over the period of the two World Wars. Deploying “Latinity” as a novel analytical framework, it gives a broad and dynamic perspective on cases of reciprocal exchange that include the influence of Italian Socialism on Hispanophone leftists; the roots of Argentine liberalism in Machiavelli and Spanish Nationalist thinkers; and the web of connections among Italian Fascism, Argentine Nacionalismo, and Spanish Francoism.

Eugeni d’Ors (1881-1954) fue, sin duda, el intelectual más relevante e influyente del primer cuarto del siglo XX en Cataluña. Fue, asimismo, un pensador constantemente preocupado por el desarrollo de la cultura europea. Estos elementos permitieron que fuese el introductor de algunas corrientes de pensamiento que serían sumamente influyentes en la cultura catalana y española, como el nacionalismo integral francés representado por Charles Maurras. This book provides a comparative study of fascisms and reactionary nationalisms. It presents these as transnational political cultures and examines the dictatorships and regimes in which these cultures played significant roles. The book is organised into three main sections, focusing on nationalists, fascists and dictatorships in turn. The chapters range across French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and German experiences, and include a broader overview of the political cultures in Central and Eastern Europe as well as Latin America. The chapters consider the identities, organizations and evolution of the various cultures and specific political movements, alongside the intersections between these movements and how they adapted to changing contexts. By doing so, the book offers a global view of fascisms and reactionary nationalisms, and promotes debate around these political cultures.
