The Forgotten Subject
The volume provides a critical inventory of existing concepts of the subject in communication studies research. In addition, concepts are developed in order to be able to analyze subjectivity in the context of current theoretical debates (including media sociology, cultural studies, psychoanalysis, practice theory, science and technology studies) as well as social, cultural and technical developments (including digitalization, mediatization, mobility and networking). Since subject conceptions are of central importance for any communication and media analyses, the volume fills a central gap in communication and media studies.

Mit dem angelegten Begriff von Nationalismus ist alles Formen und Formulieren an einer Vorstellung von, über, zur und an der »Nation Deutschland« gemeint; alltäglich und banal. Um dieses Zentrum kreisen populärkulturelle Artefakte aus dem mediatisierten Sozialraum konsumierter Musikvideoclips und dem des medienereignisliefernden professionellen »Männerfußballs« in Arenen internationaler Wettbewerbsturniere. Akteure* der Musikbranche bringen in exemplarischen Produktionen beide Sphären miteinander in Verbindung. Daraus hervorgehende Expressionen stehen im diagnostischen Fokus der Studie. Mittels eines multiperspektivischen Methodendesigns zur Deutungsmusteranalyse werden Einblicke in die Lage der »Nation« gesucht. Die Forschungskonzeption ist Wissenssoziologie und Sozialkonstruktivismus zuzuordnen, die machtkritischen Reflexionen im Wesentlichen den Cultural Studies und der Kritischen Theorie.
