Allegorical Architecture

Allegorical Architecture offers the first detailed architectural analysis of built forms and building types of the minority groups in southern China and of the Dong nationality in particular. It argues that Dong architecture symbolically resembles its inhabitants in many ways. The built world is an extension of their body and mind; their experience of architecture is figurative and their understanding of it allegorical. Unlike the symbolism of historical architecture, which must be decoded through a speculative reconstruction of the past, the Dong tell stories about inhabitants in their living state in the recurrent process of ritualistic making and inhabiting of their built world. Winner of the Foundation Council Award of the Georg-August-University of Göttingen Public Law Foundation in the category of “Outstanding Publications of Young Scientists”, 2017. In Nation and Ethnicity: Chinese Discourses on History, Historiography, and Nationalism (1900s-1920s) Julia C. Schneider give an analysis of nationalist and historiographical discourses among late imperial and early republican Chinese thinkers. In particular, she researches their approaches towards non-Chinese people within the Qing Empire and the question on how to integrate them into a Chinese nation-state. Non-Chinese people, mainly Manchus, Mongols, Tibetans, and Turkic Muslims, (Uyghurs), have not been considered as important factors in the history of early Chinese nationalism so far. But Chinese nationalist and historiographical discourses tell not only a lot about the Chinese image of the Other, but also shed new light on the images of the Chinese Self and its assumed ability to assimilate and integrate other ethnicities.

MSIEID 2022

The Management Science Informatization and Economic Innovation Development Conference is a leading conference held annually. It aims at building an academic platform for the communication and academic exchange among participants from various fields related to management science informatization and economic innovation development. Here, scholars, experts, and researchers are welcomed to share their research progress and inspirations. It is a great opportunity to promote academic communication and collaboration worldwide. This volume contains the papers presented at the 4th Management Science Informatization and Economic Innovation Development Conference (MSIEID 2022), held during December 9th-11th, 2022 in Chongqing, China (virtual event). For the safety concern of all participants under nowadays situation, we decided to hold it as a virtual conference which is also effective and convenient for academic exchange and communication. Everyone interested in these fields were welcomed to join the online conference and to give comments and raise questions to the speeches and presentations.

Computational tools in inferring cancer tissue-of-origin and molecular classification towards personalized cancer therapy, Volume III

Our second Research Topic in this series, Computational tools in inferring cancer tissue-of-origin and molecular classification towards personalized cancer therapy, Volume II (https://fro.ntiers.in/14361) has over 8 accepted articles and further manuscripts currently under review. Due to the continued success of these Research Topics and the interest in the subject, we will launch a third volume on the same topic. Inferring cancer tissue-of-origin and molecular classification are two critical problems in personalized cancer therapy. It is known that there are about 5% cancers of unknown primary (CUP) site. These kinds of patients are under empirical chemotherapy, which leads to a very low su...

Quantum Precision Measurement and Cold Atom Physics

Ever since the invention of the cesium atomic clock in 1955, quantum frequency standards have seen considerable development over the decades, as a representative of quantum precision measurement. The progress in frequency measurements achieved in the past allowed one to perform quantum precision measurements of other physical and technical quantities with unprecedented precision, whenever they could be traced back to a frequency measurement. Using atomic transitions as frequency reference, quantum frequency standards are far less susceptible to external perturbations, and the identity of microscopic particles allows easy replication of a quantum standard with the same frequency. With laser c...
