This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the 6th Conference on Theory of Quantum Computation, Communication, and Cryptography, TQC 2011, held in Madrid, Spain, in May 2011. The 14 revised papers presented were carefully selected from numerous submissions. The papers present new and original research and cover a large range of topics in quantum computation, communication and cryptography, a new and interdisciplinary field at the intersection of computer science, information theory and quantum mechanics.

Describing the physical properties of quantum materials near critical points with long-range many-body quantum entanglement, this book introduces readers to the basic theory of quantum phases, their phase transitions and their observable properties. This second edition begins with a new section suitable for an introductory course on quantum phase transitions, assuming no prior knowledge of quantum field theory. It also contains several new chapters to cover important recent advances, such as the Fermi gas near unitarity, Dirac fermions, Fermi liquids and their phase transitions, quantum magnetism, and solvable models obtained from string theory. The subject of the exact renormalization group started from pioneering work by Wegner and Houghton in the early seventies and, a decade later, by Polchinski, who formulated the Wilson renormalization group for field theory. In the past decade considerable progress has been made in this field, which includes the development of alternative formulations of the approach and of powerful techniques for solving the exact renormalization group equations, as well as widening of the scope of the exact renormalization group method to include fermions and gauge fields. In particular, two very recent results, namely the manifestly gauge-invariant formulation of the exact renormalization group equation and the proof of the c-theorem in four dimensions, are presented in this volume.

This book is a collection of lecture notes/contributions from a summer school on decoherence, entanglement & entropy and a workshop on MPS (matrix product states) & DMRG (density matrix renormalization group). Subjects of the summer school include introduction to MPS, black holes, qubits and octonions, weak measurement, entanglement measures and separability, generalized Bell inequalities, among others. Subjects of the workshop are dedicated to MPS and DMRG. Applications to strongly correlated systems and integrable systems are also mentioned. Quantum robotics is an emerging engineering and scientific research discipline that explores the application of quantum mechanics, quantum computing, quantum algorithms, and related fields to robotics. This work broadly surveys advances in our scientific understanding and engineering of quantum mechanisms and how these developments are expected to impact the technical capability for robots to sense, plan, learn, and act in a dynamic environment. It also discusses the new technological potential that quantum approaches may unlock for sensing and control, especially for exploring and manipulating quantum-scale environments. Finally, the work surveys the state of the art in current implementations, along with their benefits and limitations, and provides a roadmap for the future.
