Handbook of Logical Thought in India
This collection of articles is unique in the way it approaches established material on the various logical traditions in India. Instead of classifying these traditions within Schools as is the usual approach, the material here is classified into sections based on themes ranging from Fundamentals of ancient logical traditions to logic in contemporary mathematics and computer science. This collection offers not only an introduction to the key themes in different logical traditions such as Nyaya, Buddhist and Jaina, it also highlights certain unique characteristics of these traditions as well as contribute new material in the relationship of logic to aesthetics, linguistics, Kashmir Saivism as well as the forgotten Tamil contribution to logic.
Theory of Graded Consequence
This book introduces the theory of graded consequence (GCT) and its mathematical formulation. It also compares the notion of graded consequence with other notions of consequence in fuzzy logics, and discusses possible applications of the theory in approximate reasoning and decision-support systems. One of the main points where this book emphasizes on is that GCT maintains the distinction between the three different levels of languages of a logic, namely object language, metalanguage and metametalanguage, and thus avoids the problem of violation of the principle of use and mention; it also shows, gathering evidences from existing fuzzy logics, that the problem of category mistake may arise as a result of not maintaining distinction between levels.
Rough Sets
This LNAI 1103 constitutes the proceedings of the International Joint Conference on Rough Sets, IJCRS 2018, held in Quy Nhon, Vietnam, in August 2018. The 40 full papers presented together with 5 short papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 61 submissions. The LNCS journal Transactions on Rough Sets is devoted to the entire spectrum of rough sets related issues, from logical and mathematical foundations, through all aspects of rough set theory and its applications, such as data mining, knowledge discovery, and intelligent information processing, to relations between rough sets and other approaches to uncertainty, vagueness, and incompleteness, such as fuzzy sets and theory of evidence. Volume XIV contains 11 revised extended papers from the 12th International Conference on Rough Sets, Fuzzy Sets, Data Mining and Granular Computing, RSFDGrC 2009, held in Delhi, India. The topics include various rough set generalizations in combination with formal concept analysis, lattice theory, fuzzy sets and belief functions, rough and fuzzy clustering techniques, as well as applications to gene selection, web page recommendation systems, facial recognition, and temporal pattern detection. in addition, this volume contains a regular article on rough multiset and its multiset topology.
Studies in Logic
Ten essays of this book, two of which are written in Sanskrit, range from modern logic to classical Indian theories of inference. Classical Indian philosophy comprising Pracina and Navya- Nyaya, Sankhya, Buddhist and Jaina logical and philosophical standpoints are discussed in most modern technical terms of western philosophy, often with the aid of terminologies of modern logic. Edited in collaboration with FoLLI, this book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 10th Indian Conference on Logic and Its Applications, ICLA 2023, which was held in Indore, India, in March 2023. Besides 6 invited papers presented in this volume, there are 9 contributed full papers which were carefully reviewed and selected from 18 submissions. The volume covers a wide range of topics. These topics are related to modal and temporal logics, intuitionistic connexive and imperative logics, systems for reasoning with vagueness and rough concepts, topological quasi-Boolean logic and quasi-Boolean based rough set models, and first-order definability of path functions of graphs.
