Raytheon Company

Raytheon's history is one of the great American success stories. Launched in 1922, the Cambridge-based company quickly moved to the forefront of innovation in the electronics industry. During World War II, thousands of Raytheon workers contributed to the war effort, supplying eighty percent of the magnetron tubes (vital components for U.S. and British radars), developing miniature tubes for the crucial proximity fuse in antiaircraft shells, and providing entire radar systems. Although government contracts slowed after World War II, Raytheon continued to develop military components, including leading-edge radars and missiles for America's defenses in the Cold War, but it also began to offer a host of civilian products: the famous RadaRange (the world's first microwave oven), televisions, marine radars, transistors, miniature hearing aids, and medical equipment.

The Unforgiving

THE UNFORGIVING is set in the Dominican Republic during the heyday of direct U.S. military intervention in the Caribbean. There are military actions, betrayals, intrigue, good humor and romantic encounters between an American Marine captain and the beautiful daughter of the wealthiest Dominican on the island. The novel takes place immediately after the end of the First World War and depicts the impact of an occupying military force of Americans in the affairs of a small nation. At issue is the conflict between the rights of small farmers and powerful landowners. Marine officers and men find themselves in a critical position between peasants lending support to guerrilla insurgents and ruthless sugar barons. This insightful book examines the unwelcome and unexpected role of American Marines trying to resolve an age-old problem of exploitation of the weak and helpless by the rich and powerful.

INSIDE (One Man's Experience of Prison) A True Story

This is a true story of a journey to hell and back. In 1994 John Hoskison was a highly respected and successful professional golfer. Then, one evening, after a tournament, he broke a rule of his life by drinking and driving and on the way home he hit and killed a cyclist. Hoskison knew he'd never escape the pain he'd caused and felt a prison sentence was justified. As a non-violent first offender, he could have expected to serve part of his sentence in an open prison, but was instead consigned to some of the toughest in Britain; places of medieval-like squalor and violence. REVIEWS" "This is a must read book. Not just an insight into how prison really is but a real life story that illustrates just how quickly your life can turn upside down. There but for the grace of God..." ~John Francome, Author and Champion Jockey. "...a searingly honest account. John Hoskison tells it like it is, as opposed to what gets portrayed on TV or at the cinema." ~Professor David Wilson, Professor of Criminology at Birmingham City University; former Prison Governor. Go Blue!

Some of greatest untold stories from Michigan’s football program are shared in this book based on intimate interviews with former players and coaches. Due to his long history covering Michigan football, author Steve Kornacki was given open-door access to Lloyd Carr, Bo Schembelcher, and Gary Moeller, all of whom provided hours of their time sharing their personal accounts and of occurrences during their coaching tenures; the stuff that legends are made of. Stories include being in the Michigan locker room after Bo Schembechler’s last game in the Big House and hearing his rousing speech leading the team in “The Victors” as they punctuated each verse by thrusting red roses toward the c...
