There they find a deeply frightened populace who are willing to believe the Count is the devil incarnate. Perhaps they are right. Representations of the Local in the Postmillennial Novel
This book discusses a rich variety of voices from the margins and experiences of living in the postmillennial globalised world represented in selected novels by Irish-Canadian, British, American, Serbian, Australian, Iraqi and Māori authors. Contributions focus on illustrative examples of the contemporary novel that reflects acute awareness of globalizing processes and the rising tension between global and local identities, discourses and trends. In its diversity, the book serves to map voices from the new margins overshadowed by the intense pressure of globalization. Whether these new margins are ethnic minorities living in globalized centres of contemporary metropoles or authors whose national, local or regional voices are marginalized by works with more global ones, they are equally deserving of the attention of general readers, university students and literary scholars. The book will primarily appeal to scholars in the fields of literary, gender, postcolonial and food studies, but will also be of interest to a broader readership involved in explorations of literary works in the context of globalizing processes.
After Yugoslavia
The book brings together many of the best known commentators and scholars who write about former Yugoslavia. The essays focus on the post-Yugoslav cultural transition and try to answer questions about what has been gained and what has been lost since the dissolution of the common country. Most of the contributions can be seen as current attempts to make sense of the past and help cultures in transition, as well as to report on them. The volume is a mixture of personal essays and scholarly articles and that combination of genres makes the book both moving and informative. Its importance is unique. While many studies dwell on the causes of the demise of Yugoslavia, this collection touches upon these causes but goes beyond them to identify Yugoslavia's legacy in a comprehensive way. It brings topics and writers, usually treated separately, into fruitful dialog with one another.

This book, Challenging Change: Literary and Linguistic Responses, is a collection of twenty-three articles which examine change – understood in the broadest sense – as the need of the modern man to redefine, revise, deconstruct and reconstruct previous theories, histories, moralities, social relationships, forms of language and language use. In these times of great change, when the only constant seems to be change itself, the authors of these essays respond to the challenge and approach the notion of change from the perspectives of literary studies and linguistics.
