Na wymęczoną inflacją i recesją Europę spada nowy kataklizm – niespotykana od stuleci susza. W Warszawie woda jest racjonowana. Pewnego październikowego poranka mieszkańcy stolicy odkrywają, że krany w ich domach są całkiem suche. Tego samego dnia, Kornel Kraus, sierżant stołecznej policji, odbiera wezwanie do strzelaniny na Saskiej Kępie, gdzie znajduje ciała kobiety i nastolatka. Wkrótce dowiaduje się także o śmierci głównego inżyniera MPWiK. Musi rozwikłać obie te sprawy zanim zamieszki na ulicach przerodzą się w rozruchy, a odcięcie wody zagrozi egzystencji dwóch milionów ludzi. „Prawda nie krzywdzi” to literacki debiut dziennikarza, którego artykuły od dwudziestu pięciu lat śledzą czytelnicy tytułów finansowych. „Tłem dla prowadzonego przez Kornela śledztwa są konsekwencje zmian klimatycznych. Oczywiście, w tej historii to tylko literacka fikcja. Ale może zmienić się w rzeczywistość wcześniej niż ktokolwiek z nas się tego spodziewa. W wielu miejscach na świecie susza i brak dostępu do wody już stają się realnymi wyzwaniami. Także tam, gdzie nigdy wcześniej nimi nie były”.
