Mesianisme adalah suatu paham yang menunggu kehadiran seorang “messiah” yang bakal menyelamatkan umat manusia dan mewujudkan keadilan bagi penduduk bumi. Perkataan “messiah” sendiri berasal dari bahasa Ibrani, “messiah”, yang merupakan padanan atau cognate perkataan Arab, al-masih. Sekalipun tidak terlalu merata, paham yang mesianistik juga ada dalam kalangan muslimin. Tentang asal-usul paham ini para sejarawan mengajukan berbagai pandangan.
