Handbook of Theoretical Atomic Physics

Handbook of Theoretical Atomic Physics

The aim of this book is to present highly accurate and extensive theoretical Atomic data and to give a survey of selected calculational methods for atomic physics, used to obtain these data. The book presents the results of calculations of cross sections and probabilities of a broad variety of atomic processes with participation of photons and electrons, namely on photoabsorption, electron scattering and accompanying effects. Included are data for photoabsorption and electron scattering cross-sections and probabilities of vacancy decay formed for a large number of atoms and ions. Attention is also given to photoionization and vacancy decay in endohedrals and to positron-atom scattering. The ...

Electron Spectrometry of Atoms Using Synchrotron Radiation

The study of electron spectrometry using synchrotron radiation is a growing field of research driven by the increasing availability of advanced synchrotron radiation light sources and improved theoretical methods for solving the many-electron problem in atoms. This balanced account, by a leading researcher in this field, will be of value to both theorists and experimentalists in atomic, molecular and chemical physicists.

Few-Body Problems in Physics ’02

In this Supplement we have collected the invited and contributed talks pre sented at the XVIII European Conference on Few-Body Problems in Physics, organised by the Jozef Stefan Institute and the University of Ljubljana, Slove nia. The Conference, sponsored by the European Physical Society, took place at the lakeside resort of Bled from 8 to 14 September, 2002. This meeting was a part of the series of European Few-Body Conferences, previously held in Evora/Portugal (2000), Autrans/France (1998), Peniscola/Spain (1995), ... Our aim was to emphasise, to a larger extent than at previous Conferences, the interdisciplinarity of research fields of the Few-Body community. To pro mote a richer exchange of ideas, we therefore strived to avoid parallel sessions as much as possible. On the other hand, to promote the participation of young scientists who we feel will eventually shape the future of Few-Body Physics, we wished to give almost all attendees the opportunity to speak.

This book provides a unique and comprehensive overview of state-of-the-art understanding of the molecular and nano-scale processes that play significant roles in ion-beam cancer therapy. It covers experimental design and methodology, and reviews the theoretical understanding of the processes involved. It offers the reader an opportunity to learn from a coherent approach about the physics, chemistry and biology relevant to ion-beam cancer therapy, a growing field of important medical application worldwide. The book describes phenomena occurring on different time and energy scales relevant to the radiation damage of biological targets and ion-beam cancer therapy from the molecular (nano) scale...

Begins a new series devoted to publishing the extended abstracts and proceedings of workshops and small conferences, as well as the thesis work of graduate students, in the growing field of physical and chemical processes induced by harder electromagnetic radiation. The present volume contains 56 papers by experts from the different subfields of photoionization, both experimentalists and theoreticians. Among the topics: theoretical advances in partial cross section calculations; molecular dissociative double photoionization; study of PCI by coincidence experiments; physics and chemistry with XUV synchrotron radiation; and photoionization of helium over extended energy ranges. Mya is investigating Libby, the new girl at school. Libby won't speak, smile or play with anyone. The Children's Police Force thinks she is mean, but they need proof. Finding proof is Mya's job. It won't be easy. Libby isn't just mean, she is sneaky, too. When Mya talks to her, Libby fake cries in class. Now Libby has a teacher on her side. Who will she trick next? To solve the case, Mya must prove that Libby is mean and warn everyone. Can she stop Libby before it's too late? Or will this mean girl take over the school? This book is written in British English.
