In this book of political fiction, the author is trying to convey a message to the Latino people of this country and at the same time attempting to unmask the ugly face of racism as it exists today in the U.S., not only for Chicanos but also for other minorities in America. He presents and counters all those false stigmas that have been laid at the feet of the Chicanos and Latinos of this country. He presents the absurdity of the Chicanos and immigrants from Mexico being called aliens, illegal, and wetbacks. He also addresses the biases in our legal system and how laws are used as vehicles of discrimination and oppression. J.J. Koehler believes in his soul that laws as well as the hearts of men can be changed by presenting the truth from the perspective of the people who are the victims of these unjust laws and revealing the suppression these laws cause. He exposes the lies and the real reasons why Latinos have been targeted in the psychological warfare being waged on them as a people. He believes that violence is not the answer but education is. He advocates compassion, love and kindness as the only way true and lasting change can be realized.

On October 15, 1983, a young mother of six was murdered while walking across her village of Huitzilan de Serdán, Mexico, with her infant son and one of her daughters. This woman, Victoria Bonilla, was among more than one hundred villagers who perished in violence that broke out soon after the Mexican army chopped down a cornfield that had been planted on an unused cattle pasture by forty Nahuat villagers. In this anthropological account, based on years of fieldwork in Huitzilan, James M. Taggart turns to Victoria's husband, Nacho Angel Hernández, to try to understand how a community based on respect and cooperation descended into horrific violence and fratricide. When the army chopped down...
Breaking the Wave is the first anthology of original essays by both younger and established scholars that takes a long view of feminist activism by systematically examining the dynamics of movement persistence during moments of reaction and backlash. Ranging from the "civic feminism" of white middle-class organizers and the "womanism" of Harlem consumers in the immediate postwar period, to the utopian feminism of Massachusetts lesbian softball league founders and environmentally minded feminists in the 1970s and 1980s, Breaking the Wave documents a continuity of activism in both national and local organizing that creates a new discussion, and a new paradigm, for twentieth century women’s history. Contributors: Jacqueline L. Castledine, Susan K. Freeman, Julie A. Gallagher, Marcia Gallo, Sally J. Kenney, Rebecca M. Kluchin, Kathleen A. Laughlin, Lanethea Mathews, Catherine E. Rymph, Julia Sandy-Bailey, Jennifer A. Stevens, Janet Weaver, and Leandra Zarnow.
Half of all women in the United States will live with or marry a man with children. And what woman with stepchildren has not -- in order to defuse the often overwhelming challenges and anxieties she experiences -- referred to herself as a "stepmonster"? This book illuminates the harrowing process of becoming a stepmother, exposes the myths and realities of being married to a man with children, counteracts the prevailing notion that stepmothers are solely responsible for the problems they encounter, identifies the five "step-dilemmas" that create conflict, and considers the emotional and social challenges men with children face when they remarry. The author also sheds light on the history of stepmothering and the previously overlooked legacy of women with stepchildren everywhere. The author also shows why the myth of the Wicked Stepmother is at once an elaborate cultural fiction and our single best tool for understanding who real stepmothers are and how they feel.
