Global Change in Marine Systems
Global Change in Marine Systems analyses and appraises societal and governing responses to change affecting marine social and ecological systems around the world. Acknowledging the stakes – local societies that depend on marine systems for food, livelihoods and wellbeing can suffer great hardship – this book highlights and explains similarities and distinctions between successful and unsuccessful responses. The book presents an analytical framework (‘I-ADApT’) that enables decision-makers to consider possible responses to global change based on experiences elsewhere. Environmental Management of Marine Fish Farms
This document is intended to assist farm operators to avoid or minimize environmental impacts. It outlines B.C. Ministry of Environment (MoE) regulatory requirements and procedures which should be followed by all operators. Together with the Ministry's Environmental Monitoring Program for Marine Fish Farms and the Aquaculture Waste Control Regulation, it should help to ensure that environmental concerns under MoE jurisdiction are addressed and the industry is treated by MoE in a manner which is fair and consistent with other waste generating coastal activities. MoE emphasizes appropriate siting, acceptable waste management and other operational practices, and environmental monitoring at all farms to determine whether or not environmental impacts are occurring or are likely to occur. In addition, MoE is engaged in or supporting several studies into potential environmental impacts associated with marine fish farming.
