Bible John: A New Suspect

Cold cases are, by their very nature, historical and yet crime narrative non-fiction is almost always written by retired detectives, reporters and criminologists. While genealogy is beginning to be recognised as a viable tool, there is so much more that historians have to offer. The author is convinced that historians can bring a different skill-set to cold case investigations, taking her on a hunt for a serial killer. In the case of Scotland’s Bible John murders, she goes back to events that happened decades ago, with an engaging and captivating writing style that ranges from historical reconstruction to interviews and analyzing hundreds of documents from an endless bibliography. In the end, she offers a compelling and original theory. Jillian Bavin-Mizzi - BA (Hons 1st), Dip Ed., PhD is an Australian historian writing cold-case narrative non-fiction. She worked as a lecturer at Murdoch University for nearly ten years, publishing a number of academic works in the field of late-nineteenth-century sexual assault cases. Over time, she became increasingly interested in cold cases and published a first true-crime book, The Wanda Beach Murders, in 2021.

Harold Wilson

This year marks the centenary of Harold Wilson's birth, the fiftieth anniversary of his most impressive general election victory and forty years since his dramatic resignation as Prime Minister. He was one of the longest-serving premiers of the twentieth century, having won a staggering four general elections, yet, despite this monumental record, his place in Labour's history remains somewhat ambiguous. By the end of his two periods in power, both the left and right of the party were highly critical of Wilson - the former regarding him as a traitor to socialism, the latter as contributing directly to British decline. With contributions from leading experts in the fields of political study, and from Wilson's own contemporaries, this remarkable new study offers a timely and wide-ranging reappraisal of one of the giants of twentieth-century politics, examining the context within which he operated, his approach to leadership and responses to changing social and economic norms, the successes and failure of his policies, and how he was viewed by peers from across the political spectrum. Finally, it examines the overall impact of Harold Wilson on the development of British politics.

Queen of Clouds is a sumptuous fantasy from the mind of Glasgow-based author and musician Neil Williamson. Neil's debut novel The Moon King was described by Jeff VanderMeer as "one of the best debuts of this or any other year" and went on to be shortlisted for both the BSFA Award and British Fantasy Award for best novel. Then the outside world impinges, and Billy is tasked with delivering a sylvan to the Sunshine City of Karpentine. Upon his arrival, Billy falls in with a young Weathermaker, Paraphernalia, who proves to be fascinating and infuri...
